Roof Vent/Penetration Family

I'm trying to make several roof families for my projects.  They are things like a standard TPO Vent Pipe Penetrations, Air Intake, etc.  The issue here is that almost every one of these families are the same.  a Pipe is penetrating the roof membrane and it will be vertical to the sky.  The roof plane changes slope depending on the design (generally between 1/4" to 1" per foot).  What I'm seeking to do is make a family that I could insert into a model and have it match the plane of the roof while keeping the pipe member vertical on the model.  Is there a way to do this, besides just manually creating a sloped plane that the membrane portion is mapped to that changed angle manually?  I'd prefer if it were something like a Face Based Family that I could just insert and the roof plane stuff would automatically map to the slop of the roof plane.

There are lots of similar families out there like this and possibly a couple in the default library.

If you look in the Architectural Tab you will see an option to place an Opening on a sloped face which is vertical so this functionality is available to you directly within Revit you just add the components into it.

I recommend finding a family similar to that of which you are looking to create and then break it down for your needs as this ensure all the critical metrics are already in place for the outset!

I would seek out manufacturer family since they may have these item figure out. Look for roof vent from BimObject. Study how they built their family and try to emulate how you built your vent and penetration family.

@syman2000 and/or @jay_colcombe In looking through some of these families I'm not exactly having a lot of luck finding one that fits the bill.  Have a recommendation?

Model it as an architectural column family and attach its base to the roof. It will be vertical but the base will match the roof slope.

Can you sketch what your intent for the family behavior to be and see if we can give you guidance to achieve your goal?

MEP Content is up and coming and deal directly with manufacturers.

Although Trimble they are creating content for Revit too!

@syman2000 This is one of the standard roof families I'm trying to make, a standard VTR for a DWV System.  https://www.flashco.com/buy-online/product/flashcap/

@ToanDN Interesting suggestion, but the Architectural Column seems to be a two-level family and is Level based, not faced based.  There is a started template for a family where I attempted to make this detail, and while it will map the base to the Roof, it seems to put me in a bind, I'm either mapped to the Roof, or I'm vertical.  I've attached the family just so you can see what I've done so far.

You have to modify the family to fit the angle you want. I've modify the family to allow angle. So if the surface is set to that angle, you can adjust the penetration pipe with the roof angle so it will always face vertically.

@syman2000 thank you for your draft family, it set me in the right direction I think for now.  I ended up reversing it for the final families though.  So instead of the pipe rotating, the base flashing rotates.  I did this because for whatever reason, when I went to add a pipe or duct connection to the family it really didn't like attaching to the end of the rotating element, it kept deleting itself or refusing to even exist on the end of the element that moved.  I've attached the two families I made, if you see something you think that could improve it, than please let me know.

These two families are meant to model the following items.

VTR - FlashCo FlashJack and Cap - https://www.flashco.com/buy-online/product/flashcap/

Exhaust - FlashCo FlashVent Exhaust Vent - https://www.flashco.com/buy-online/product/flashvent-easyflapper-exhaust-vent-assembled/

Your family looks good. It is workplane base and always set as vertical. As well it can connect with piping system. Hope the family sample prove useful for you.
