Hi, I am creating a second storey addition to an existing house. The main floor walls are 33'x24', roof full hip, 7/12 pitch. Second floor addition approx 24'x22' centered on floor below. I want to keep all of the existing roof on the exterior of this addition at existing roof level. How can I remove the existing roof within the addition above and retain the roof on exterior.
Thanks in advance for any help
Frank
You could use the dormer tool to cut the roof out where the walls are. Just be sure to join the roof/walls first and then it should work. Or you could use the roof opening tool. Or change the boundaries of the roof so that the rooms now form the boundaries creating a hole in the center.
I'd be curious about how it will actually be constructed in the field. Is a portion of existing roof actually retained and a portion of it being demolished and replaced by a new roof?

This is very common in residential additions. The a portion of the roof is removed and the new floor system and exterior walls are framed up to the cut roof. The existing roof remains on the outside of the new second floor addition.
I've been in Residential Construction for over 30 years. I wasn't questioning IF it could be done; I was questioning HOW it will be done. That Building Information dictates how it will be Modeled in Revit.
