Roof Gable Ends

How do I add color and pattern to the cut end of a gable roof?  In reality, the siding will extend up past the structure of the roof, up to the cap flashing, but I can't seem to make that happen.  I tried the paint tool, but it won't select the roof.  So now it looks like I have a huge fascia, which I don't want.  Also, if painting is the only option, how do I get rid of the roof lines?

The roof is flush with the siding on both eave and gable ends.

Here are the steps below,

1. a Modifiy your wall structure to enable the exterior layer (your vertical cladding) to have a vertical extension;
1. b Give your walls a non-zero value for the height extension (don't know why but seems necessary!). This will disappear in step 2.

2. Edit the side and gable wall profils to match the top of the roof gable and for the side the low point;

3. Attach the walls to the roof using the manual Modify|Attach command rather that the automatic attach wall to roof;

4. Paint the fascia parts of the roof with the same material and the wall exterior layer (cladding);

5. Align the material fill pattern you just painted with the walls fill pattern with the  align tool

You could  problably constrain wall profils in to the roof shape in step 2.

I would model it as two roofs and attach the walls to both of them. See attached.

Something along these lines?

If so, another approach would be to do 2 walls at the gable side; one attaches to bottom of roof via Attach Top/Base Tool, and the other (exterior) attached to the top of the roof via the Attach Top/Base Tool and picking a Ref Plane as the target (not the roof).  To do this, you would go to an Elevation View and draw a Ref Plane along the top of the Roof, then pick the exterior wall, press Attach Top/Base on Contextual Tab -- and then select the Ref. Plane.

I had drawn two roofs, but not two walls.  Not sure how to insert windows into two walls.  Sorry, am new to Revit, and it's not intuitive.
