Roof base family label visibility

Hi.

We have been using tags for roof based family like mechanical curb, cricket, screen, solar, etc.

I wd like to try imbedded labels to save us some extra time. Yet the label won't appear in any graphic settings, coarse, fine, hidden line, etc.

Only most possible setting seems to be View Range. Even that I still have not successed. Not much you can change there if you want to show other things.

Is there a revit default setting or rule of thumbs to help these simple items to displace their labels ? I have placed the labels on all default level inside the family (2 floors, 2 ceilings) with no luck.

flat roof vs slopped roof? Most likely because those labels are on their workplane is not parallel to that of the view in the main model.

Hm, never thought of that.

By your saying, if the view plane is yellow, my label should be on the red plane ? If so, how would I place the label on such plane ?

It is not the label which you have an issue with, it is the host of the label when the roof based family is loaded into the model. To see the nested annotation/label on a floor plan view the host of that label needs to be on a parallele to the horizontal  floor plane…When the host family is a face/floor/roof based family and the face/roof/floor in the model is not flat, regardless what you do the annotation won’t show up in plan view because the nested annotation is no longer parallel to the horizontal Plane/Level. 

And as You only mentioned "label" in a "roof based family" and as the template of generic roof base has no option to place label, I assume that you have used a generic annotation? Hence, in the model, its workplane will be the roof element and if that roof is slopped, that Generic annotation will simply not show...Place the family on a flat roof and it will show (See GIF below)...

There are several ways to trick Revit to show it but it is more trouble than using Tags. Tagging is the better approach and less time consuming considering the time you will spend to crack each case with that family...TAG all visible in view and you are done

Personally I wouldnt clutter a nice simple family with labels

If you create a brand new roof based family there are 4 preset plan views, lower floor plan, upper floor plan, lower ceiling plan and upper ceiling plan.

I assume those plans parallel to the roof plan on project sheet, am I wrong ?

Someone clever enough to create a mechanical curb family in revit city that has the top always flat to the sheet roof plan, as I show in the section. Hence the question whether I can place the label precisely on its top surface, or parallel plane ? And how... accordingly to your principle.

Of course I didn't expect the label to show on the elevation.

Those are relative levels which has nothing to do with the building levels in the model…similar to those in a face based, floor based or any host based family template.

When the host in the model is given a slope or modified sub elements and the family is placed on such host it will no longer be in vertical position and will no longer project the annotation in the floor plan view. 

The family in the model needs to be either Always vertical (ie: won’t line up with the roof) or the roof needs to be flat (no slope) which also won’t work because the roof you have is slopped. 

One of the straight forward workaround to get it to show when hosted on a sloped roof is 

• to have the option Always Vertical Check in the family
• and model the geometry with a parametric base ie: angle parameter to input manually in the model to match the roof

If you are doing this just for the sake of learning and knowledge, then that is great but if you are seriously considering to implement this at work it will be a huge waste of time and effort...You said in the original post that your aim is to save time; which is faster to tag all and get done with 3 clicks or to customize all your families and remodel them to do something already available OOTB!
