Roller Coaster

Hi, I have a project due for my school for a roller coaster theme park. Is there any possible way to build a roller coaster model on Revit? Project is due 2/22/17 if anyone can reply to me before that. Thanks in advance!!

Hi @Anonymous

Welcome to the community! Smiley (fröhlich)

I must say, your deadline is in 2 days. You'll have your work cut out for you. THIS ARTICLE will definitely get you going and has a lot of useful advice.

Generally, I would most probably use Adaptive Models to create the Roller Coaster and then you can use various tools which Revit has to offer to create the Coaster support and bracing etc. Have a look at this ADAPTIVE STAIRS video, instead of stairs, create adaptive "coaster tracks".

I hope this helps & good luck with the project! Smiley (fröhlich)

@Anonymous Hey

in Revit it is doable for sure; how? Depends on the complexity and level of detail you are looking for. Adaptive Components are not necessarily needed or required. It can be as simple as a swept profile in massing environment and it can be as complicated as going down to place the smallest bolts...

the challenging question is the 2 days! Since you had to ask; my advice would be to use any other software which you have good experience with for that submission and learn later how it could be done in Revit. It doesn't need much Reviting skill and any one with a considerable/moderate experience using revit can model it without asking...but in two days is questionable...

I agree with @RDAOU, there are many ways to skin a cat in Revit. It depends on the complexity which you're after. I think the general consensus is your timeframe, which is now pretty much down to 1 day Frustrierte Smiley

I'm not sure how familiar you are with SketchUp, or Revit for that matter. If someone came to me right now, telling me that I need to have a "Theme Park/Roller Coaster" concept done by tomorrow, then I would do the following:

Download SketchUp (if you don't have it already). Then download a Rollercoaster Model/s, then export the SketchUp Model (.skp). There are hundreds of Rollercoaster Models available in SketchUp's 3D Warehouse to choose from. (You could just do everything in SketchUp, but I'm assuming that you need to submit the project as a Revit Project, if so, continue below).

Then I'll import the SketchUp Rollercoaster Model (Basis of the project) into Revit and then add other elements. (Site Elements, People, Ablution Blocks, Buildings etc. etc.) - Get creative, even other SketchUp Models like Theme Park Rides can be imported...

If you haven't imported a SketchUp model into Revit before, then have a look at THIS POST

I hope this helps! Smiley (fröhlich)

@rudi.roux Thank you for the reference to that article about families with the adaptive template for theme park projects. By the way, there will be a "Part 2" of that article soon. It will be published as part of the Expert Elite Highlight series, the first week of April, I think. This "Part 2" of the article contains topics such as roller coaster, families with adaptive repetitions, creating forms with repeaters, and others.

@rudi.roux !!! why WAS? It still is...

Apart from Paul Aubin's book I think Alf redo is the only one who managed to put in so much stuff on adaptive components in one document/article...
