RFA BIM Model black out in shaded and consistent colours view

Hi All,

Please can anyone shed some light on why my RFA model is behaving this way..

When i show the model in Realistic view the colours appear as expected. As soon as i view the model in Consistent Colors or Shaded views then the model goes all black.

I have attached photos

Does anyone have a solution to this?

Many thanks,

Callum

If i remember correctly, this was an issue a bunch of people had with Revit LT 2014/15.

im sure It is a problem with the default Libraries that are shipped with some builds. You will need to either re download a good copy of the full libraries or you can get someone else who has Revit installed in your office/school to copy their library onto a memory stick or something similar and replace your current one on your machine.

Im sure i can find you a link to download the libaries if you cant get it anywhere. Heres a wee guide from Graitec on doing this.

Hope this helps :leicht_lächelndes_Gesicht:

Check your Object Styles. What I have in my screenshot is the family in a shaded view.

No its not that.. i can import other rfa files and there not be a shading issue... only the models i am exporting from Inventor.

Ah, you never mentioned they were exported from Inventor.

Is this the same with any file you export from inventor to revit?

I dont know this workflow so am unsure of the steps involved. Is there export settings within Inventor to map materials? Have the checked the materials Shading properties within your Revit project file? And your Object style settings as mentioned above?

I don't remember exactly how Inventor works, but this something similar happened when I exported models out of 3DS Max. In that case, I had to make sure that objects were on layers in 3DS - in Revit Objects Styles all that I would see would be layers.

Another tip if you have applied materials in Inventor - stay in the view which works correctly. Go into Object Styles >> Materials (of each object) and start deleting out the materials. Close after each deletion (I know this sounds weird!!). There may be a time when you delete a material and the object's appearance changes. Undo - that is the material that is actually associated with the object.

Moral of the story - model families in Revit. So much less grief.

Sorry i should of mentioned that really.

Yes it is the same with any file i export. I have had a brief look for export settings without much luck.

Regarding the materials mapping correctly, i cannot apply materials to the rfa inside inventor because part of the RFA export workflow is to simplify my assembly into a part file which removes individual materials and gives the part one generic material. The styling that can be seen in the realistic view has been done by adding appearances to difference faces of the part file inside inventor to ensure it looks as realistic as possible. I believe the only way i can export an assembly whilst maintaining the material properties is to export it as  .adsk?

I will have a more in depth look into shading/lighting options within inventor though as this seems the most likely cause.

I will keep the thread updated if anything changes.

Thanks again,

Callum
