Revit Worksharing Monitor - Slow Network notifications

Hello everyone ...

Our users are getting the Slow Network notification in Worksharing Monitor (both for Revit 2014 and 2015).

- The Slow Network notification is immediate upon loading the file and opening WSM (no commands performed).

- The Slow Network notification comes and goes throughout the day (resolving and occuring again without pattern).

- File server is local (hosted in our office)

- The latest patches/update releases are installed for both Revit versions.

- Network connectivity is 1.0Gbps for clients.

- SMB file server is separate from our domain controller

- All our users on Windows 7 (not mixed with Win8) ... so SMB client version access are all through SMB v2 (to our Windows Server 2012).

We've also tested using a regular desktop workstation as a file server (nothing else install but the operation system) ... and this DID NOT bring up the Slow Network notification in WSM when accessing the Central file from that.

Another portion we tested was installing the Antivirus on the regular desktop workstation (set up as a file server) ... since our file servers have this Antivirus running on it.(without any exceptions applied for Revit related files).  Still there were no Slow Network notifications. on the test desktop file server.

Aside from reaching out to Autodesk / Revit SME ... we are at a loss to what else to test.  Have anyone come across this and may have suggestions on what to test next?

Thanks in advance!

- Ed

From one of our developers -> "The Worksharing Monitor will ping (send ICMP echo message to) the file server of the central file periodically. When it gets a time-out reply, it would trigger the “Slow Network” notification. The time-out threshold is 1 second – if the file server does not respond to the ping in one second, the result is time-out."

So, it sounds like the ICMP echo (aka ping) is failing to return in under a second.

Thanks for the clarification Kyle!

We've also been running ping test from our clients ... resulting in 0% packets lost and <1ms roundtrip times.

Is there another method to run an ICMP ping test we could be using ... that better reflects how Worksharing Monitor is measuring network latency?

Weird.  I don't have the expertise myself here, so I'm not sure why a ping from workshare monitor would fail, when a ping via other means succeeds.  Maybe a firewall issue blocking the Workshare Monitor exe?

Cheers,

Additional test we ran:

1) Ran continuous ping via "ping -t serveraddress"
2) Opened up Revit file and Worksharing Monitor
3) Worksharing Monitor brings up notification of Slow Network ... while ping continuously show Roundtrip result of <1ms.

We have the same problem with slow network shows in Worksharing monitore now and then.

Have you reached any progress? it would be great to be av with it.

Thanks in advance.
