After I load up Revit and I'm sitting at the "Recent Files" window, I can't access the "Open File" dialog. Once I click on "open" (or the folder icon on the QAC or open fly-out on the main menu), the program hangs, I get the spinning hour glass and I'm forced to close out of Revit. The open file dialog never pops up.
I can load one of the recent files from the recent files window without any issues, but that doesn't really help since the file I need to access isn't listed there. I didn't have this issue this morning (I always go to open and create a new local from the central file every morning) and it wasn't until some time after lunch that I discovered this issue. Not sure what may have changed on my system to cause this.
I've already tried this (below) and still got the issue after making those changes to the startup and services.
Currently working in Revit 2014.
Any ideas how to fix this?
Thanks,
-Josh

Hello,
Please let me know what you end up finding out. I am a Revit tech that works for a reseller, and I have two cases today that the same issue has come up.
Can you see if you installed the update 3 for Revit?
Thanks,

We are currently experiencing this same issue with some Revit 2103 and some Revit 2014 systems, but not all of them in our environment. Revit 2015 and 2016 are fine on all systems that I am aware of. It seems our issues may have begun around Thursday or Friday of last week. Looking for the commonalities at the moment.
As reported by Joseph Rothwell ( @Anonymous ) in the Revit 2014 Crashes When Opening Any File thread, a workaround that does not require removing Dropbox is to use Open > Family (or select the Open link under Families in the Recent Files window). You can cancel that dialog, and then select Open > Project (or the Open link under Projects in the Recent Files window) and the Open dialog will work as expected. That worked for me.
If you completely close the session of Revit 2014 and start another, you will have to use the workaround again. In limited testing, it appears to hold for the duration of a Revit session, so you can open a second or third project using the Open > Project.
