Revit to NWC room phase

Hello,

There is a project with with two phases, lets call them Existing and New Construction.

Project has rooms assigned to the Existing Phase and different rooms assigned to the New Construction Phase.

During the export to NWC file, including rooms geometry, Revit exports both, rooms assigned to the Existing and New construction phase.

It looks that Phase filter is not working during the export of Rooms from Revit to NWC.

Could someone advise the best approach? I simply want to extract rooms only for specific phase, otherwise it causing overlaps and confusion.

I couldn't find related topic in the forum, please provide a link if it was already discussed.

Thank you!

Hello @Anonymous

Not sure about rooms in particular but from what I have previously experienced, not all elements and/or objects seem to pick up the Phase property when exporated...rooms are not an easy handle even in Revit itself to start with but it is a Sunday so I cannot verify if and how that applies to rooms exported to NWC at the moment but maybe u can check on your side the NWS export settings and the selection resolution ... maybe you can also try grabbing the rooms from a different part of the model hierarchy and verify if the phase property/column shows up...then you could probably make a selection by phase and create a NWC by phase

PS: for the export settings check the the following

  1. Convert Element IDs
  2. Convert element parameters = ALL
  3. and "Convert element properties".

Hello, RDAOU

Thank you for the reply.

During the export rooms do pick up phase properties, and I can create search sets for specific phase etc..

However, rooms from different phases are causing confusion for general users. I would like to know if it's possible to export rooms just for specific phase, otherwise you need to double check that the phase is correct etc..

I also though of this method: Model with rooms only has 2 phases, isolate phase Existing and re-export only this rooms as separate NWC and to do the same with phase New Construction. I couldn't figure out if it's possible.. Is there a way of exporting only visible part of NWC as fresh NWC? Might be a solution in case we cannot do it directly from Revit

Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Ok :leicht_lächelndes_Gesicht: at first I thought you said the phase isn't there for rooms...well what I meant is if the property (phase) is there, in Navisworks you could try working it out with Selection Sets and filters. Or not?! You shouldn't need to isolate and export twice from Revit...

I will try to put together and example in a screencast once i get to the office showing what i mean or at least what i understood you want to do! But that's more like a Nawisworks query which you should have posted in the NWC forum  :leicht_lächelndes_Gesicht: more chances in getting ideas of what one can do than here

I want to know if it's possible to extract rooms from Revit for one phase instead of all phases, that's why I posted in Revit section :leicht_lächelndes_Gesicht:

If it's not possible, then we will look into alternative solutions.

I am fully aware how to create search sets for specific phase, this is not the question of this topic :leicht_lächelndes_Gesicht:

Is it possible to export Rooms for 1 phase From Revit to NWC?
If yes, how?
if Revit is not supporting this functionality then what is the best alternative approach ? Navisworks search sets?

  • To my knowledge, No... if you are going through Navisworks Exporter, that Option is not there. I have never really thought about it before because we have been always using Sets which basically does a similar thing.
  • If there is anyone who knows if a way to export single phases directly I would also be interested in learning somethin new
If yes, how?
I'm not sure I never tested but a few suggestions:
  • while phase filters may not apply to the export (model still exports as a whole), You can try placing the rooms of that Phase (one which you do not want to Show) on a workset and On the collaboration tab > worksets> Hide that workset in all views and check if NWC Exporter will ignore that workset and Export model without the elements in it
  • It might also be possible to do that if exporting to a different Format which is supported and can be directly opened in Navisworks such as CAD format, DWF or IFC...

if Revit is not supporting this functionality then what is the best alternative approach ? Navisworks search sets?

  • Normally we use Search/Selection Sets in Navisworks for such purposes...Personally, I wouldn't do it any other way

Again apologies if the above doesn't help you much

cheers
