REVIT TO DWG EXPORT LAYERS PROBLEM

Hello everybody.

I am experiencing some troubles with assigning cad layers to different revit wall layers. There are 3 attached images to represent my problem.

Using the AIA Standard (image 1), layer Finish 1 will be exported as "A-WALL-FNSH". Seems like the user can assign his own cad layers to all the wall layers, depending on his needs.

The problem is that it actually doesn't work.

In fact, as you can see in the image 3, five lines in the exported cad file are picked and they are all the same "A-WALL" layer, while I expected to find the Finish 1 (image 2) wall layers assigned to the "A-WALL-FNSH" cad layer.

After several attempts, it seems to me that when exporting compound walls, the inner wall layers are assigned only to "Common Edges" cad layer, and the outer ones are assigned to "Walls", or "Walls/Interior-Exterior", making the other actually useless.

Does anyone know how to assign cad layer to all wall layers?

Hello,

In dwg export >> Modift setup >> Layers >> under Walls >> you can change the sub layers  Finish 1, finish2, thermal/insulation  to different layer names / colors etc... Pls check the attached print screen photo  ( Dwg setup)

Hi! Thanks for your answer.

Unfortunately this didn't work.

As I said before, I tried many times to change cad layers' names and colours, but the only layer which seems to work for inner wall layers when exporting compound walls is the one assigned to "Common Edges".

Anyways, I attached screenshots of the export settings (image 1) as adviced, and the results. Again, I find only "A-WALL" layer for every picked line in AutoCAD (image 3), and taking a look at the layers list only three wall-related layers appear (image 2), while I expected to find also "A-WALL-FNSH", "A-WALL-THERMAL", "A-WALL-BASE".

Is there anything else to try?

Hi,

Pls make the adjustment of Export Layer options to  " Export all properties BYLAYER, and create new layers for overrides "    ( also added as attachment)

Hi,

I used that setup and had the same results.

Do you succede in having these cad layers as you set them when exporting?

Hi,

I am sending the revit file that i achieved to export wall layers seperately.. Also a print screen of Host layer line styles settings...

Host layer line styles...that's what makes all the difference..! i didn't know about it.

Now I have all the cad layers i want when i export.

Thanks a lot!

One last issue.

There are other objects such as Text notes which are exported associeted to the right cad layer name, but the colour is not the right one.

Is there any other setup that i am missing to check?

Did you check the third option in the Colors tab?

This 3rd option was added in Revit 2017.1 (or2).

I checked but i don't have that 3rd option available.

Besides, i actually want to "use the color ID specified on the Layers tab".

What version of Revit do you have?

The third option ensures that the export looks exactly like the drawing in Revit.

Which build: plain Revit 2017 or Revit 2017.1 or 2017.2 ?

You may need to install the latest service pack to get these functions.

It's always advised to install the latest service pack and other updates, these make the program more stable and provide more functionality.

I use Revit 2017.0

The three attached images explain the issue.

There is a squared text note, you can see that the layer is "NOTES_TEXT" with a Color 8 grey. Selecting the box i have a Color 50 (image 1), while the text is white (image 2 - "Bianco" is white, Color 7). In the 3rd image there's what it should be, all the items with "ByLayer" color.

This thing happens even with texts arrows, and in some cases with construction elements.

The color i choose in the export tab is correctly assigned to the layer, but then in the dwg file not every layer is displayed with the "ByLayer" color.

Did you manage to solve the export problem you mention in your final post here?

where you've got some lines in CAD come in with specific colours instead of being "ByLayer" like the majority of the elements in that layer.

Thanks,

Hello.

I would like to join this topis as im experiencing same problem. Im running on R17 LT and all i need to do is to export to dwg as i have it in revit file: so i have 5 different exterior walls types, few different interior walls types, few floors which some are exterior some are interior. And all i get when i try to export (even using ideas mentioned above) walls on same layer, floors on same layer...etc etc. i need that to import that dwg file into lumion 9.3. When i import it as i get it right now i cant give different materials as i have them in revit. Please help me with this. Im pretty experienced revit user but cant handle that problem myself unfortunately. Thanks.

Hi.

From what I understand your issue is that you need to have walls with different functions placed on separate pre-assigned CAD layers. See if you can use the layer modifier column in your export settings.

There you can set your walls to be exported to different layers by function (external/internal..) or by structural usage (bearing/non-bearing..) or other types. Couple of things to keep in mind here that I found very limiting. The options to choose from are hard wired, and the modifiers are only applied to elements (walls in this example) in the active Revit file - it will not apply the set modifiers to elements in linked files. I had reported this to Autodesk a while back.

Good luck.

Thank you for reply.

Unfortunately that's not what i need. For example when i have bigger design, I usually have different walls with different finish (stone, wood, stucco white, stucco grey etc etc) and they all are for example as external. This way they always come on same layer when exported to dwg. I can divide some by choosing different functions but theres not enough options to do that. They same thing happens when talking about floors. There are only 2 options: exterior interior. So i get 2 layers. But in revit we have few different types of exterior floors with different materials assigned to it. If there isnt any option to do that then Autodesk should fix this as ive found out many people having same issue. I know im LT user but cmon...

Thanks for sharing @Anonymous !

Somewhat related to the topic.

I have a wall with 2 "Finish" layers on top of the "Structure layer"...looks like only the outer "Finish Layer" gets picked up by the "Host Layer Line Styles". The other "Finish Layer" didn't change at all.

Appreciate the help if you have a fix to this.
