It takes about 45 minutes for Revit to open a template, or i file made with that template. Its a template we work on at work and nobody else is experiencing any issues with it. I can open other much larger files with no issue. After it loads there are no issues, no lagging, the problem is the loading time. I tried disabeling all ad ins and reinstalling all autodesk products, that didn't seem to fix it. I am using the latest Revit 2025.01. My computer and its system vitals are performing completely normal, when revit is opened and loading. I have lots of space and as i said I dont have any ither issues with revit apart from opening this specific template.
update: i now have issue loading any template whatsoever.
if you try to tick AUDIT first before opening the file and see if helps?
i tried that, didn't help. Should I look for something that may cause the issue within the file, once it opens
"I am using the latest Revit 2025.01 "
No, you are not using the latest. 2025.2 is the latest. Everyone on the team should use the very same version inc. updates.
Do other people by any chance use the same template file and also save it? is everyone using the same version?
" Its a template we work on at work", what do you mean with this, everyone uses this template to create a project or everyone works ON that template??
The template is it in R2025 version or lower, convertion from lower version can take some time (45min is a lot.)
Or maybe the template has already Links pre-linked for relinking to project specific ones. If those original links link to older revit version, they will update each time on open. You should be getting a notification from Revit of this.
How large (Mb's) is the template?

Yes i mean with - everyone uses this template to create a project with. Its a lower version R2024 and it doesn't contain any revit links. Its around 20 Mb. I do get a notification that it is upgrading to my version of revit when i start loading it.

That may be your issue, as @TripleM-Dev.net stated. Revit has to upgrade that template file every time you use it in Revit 2025. Open the template in 2025 and save it as a template file in 2025 format. Then use the 2025 version to create a project in Revit 2025. Do you still experience a 45-minute wait for the new file to be ready? How much content is loaded into the template file?
Are the others that quickly create a new project working in 2024? Are all machines being used equivalent in processor power, installed RAM, hard drive type and size, etc?
what happen if you use another Template ? one of Revit Template ?
Hi @lilistoyanova5,
After upgrading the template file to Revit 2025, please use SAVE AS and save the file with a new name. This operation deletes the save history, which can get very large for files created years ago.
You can also try to:
In case opening the template file still takes a long time after completing the steps above, please create a support case and attach the template file. My team will be happy to further investigate your issue. Thanks ![]()
"but mine meets the requirements to run revit "
What exact specs? If you are referring to the Autodesk minimum system requirements, those are BS and only allow to open Revit, not to actually do anything with it. A 10 year old dual-core i3 would technically meet those requirements.
