The question came up on Twitter on how to model a spiral Barbed Wire fence in Revit. So I thought I would post the solution here.

Cool. Nice Job, @BDMackey.

Interesting that you are modeling barbed wire fencing. Sign of times we're in, I guess.

BTW: if you need a barb family, let me know.  😉

@barthbradley I had a client ask for the barbs, on a straight barbed fence, and I was going to model those as supports as well. I talked them out of it so I didn't need it. I my be nice to have for future use though.

Funny. I’ve been examining this family and I’m literally lost by all the Parameters I wrote for it.  Yes; it a Parametric Barb and Wire!  I've got a file folder full of iterations of it, and other Barbed Wire Fencing components, that I did back in 2015. I must have been descending into madness at the time.  he, he. I think the impetus for the work, was the discovery of HyunWoo Kim’s Helix and Spiral You-Tube Videos. Anyways, if you want to check it out, here's one iteration upgraded to 2020.

Let me know if you need T-Post and Clips. Got those too. Yep; it must have been madness. 😉

I did get to do that for a project in the past.

I found this in the folder as well. I think it's self-explanatory. In order to be able to distinguish the barb and the wire in a View, you would need to be ridiculously close to it.  I think that's a 12-guage fly. he, he.

Hi!

This is a very well drawn illustration. Do you perhaps have a family for the wire itself that you are willing to share with me?

@BDMackey did share his Revit file in his post.  My family is attached here.
