Revit Server - LAN vs WAN

 Per this link:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2018/EN...

"The Revit Server network architecture is designed to support worksharing of multiple central models across a wide area network (WAN)."

Is there any advantage to using Revit Server on a LAN? Would it improve file opening and closing times for a group working on a project?

If anybody uses it on a LAN I would appreciate hearing their rationale and results.

I would NOT recommend it on a LAN. All it adds is complexity.

A good LAN with a high quality server with fast CPU and lots of RAM,dedicated to hosting Central Files, gigabit hub/switch, good ethernet cards on workstations (also with good specs) and you are good to go.

RS was intended for multi-office collaboration with a WAN. It has largely been replaced by C4R / BIM360.
