Revit Section View Range

I have recently come across an issue that some of my users are having with the default view range of sections.

Sometimes when they place a new section view in an elevation it is outside of the elevation's view range and does not appear.  The solution I have come up with is to find the new section in the list of views.  Find a referring view of a plan view and then adjust the view range of the section so it will show on the elevation.

This is extremely tedious and I don't understand why it is happening.  There have even been situations where one section on an elevation will show up fine but then the next one (on the same elevation) is out of the view range.

We are an interior design firm and we use the architect's model as a background for our work.  Could that have something to do with it?

Does anyone have any advice as to why this would be happening and what I can do to prevent it?

Thank you,

Matthew

As a test, try turning Far Clipping off in the elevation view--does the section show up?

Turned off Far Clipping and there wasn’t any change.

Check these items:

- View Template applied to the elevation view, and is it controlling clipping depth?

- Filter in View/and/or View Template for Section Types/Visibility?

- "Hide at Scales Coarser Than" setting in view?--check if view is set to coarse, medium or fine detail level.

There don't seem to be any issues with the visibility settings.  I am attaching a video to show exactly what is happening.

Hide at Scale Coarser Than 3/8" is showing in View Properties. (I can't see what scale your elevation view is in the video.)

You are also using a Detail Section, not a "Model Section". See discussion here:

The elevation view scale is 3/8".  The discussion you linked to is live details vs. drafting views.  I didn't see anything in it regarding Detail section vs. Model section.

If I use a model section instead I get the same result.

Turn of the CAD links for that elevation view.

OK--not sure what is wrong here.

In your project, try creating a new elevation view, with no view template applied.

Apply different scales to the view. Adjust Crop / Far Clip settings--Crop with Line, No Crop, etc.

Then, create a new section. What are the results? If same results, keep troubleshooting:

-Create the Section in Plan, instead of Elevation. What are results?

-Check if any Scope Boxes or Section Boxes are applied.

-Check Phase Filter setting of Section and Elevation views.

-Check if any Design Options are in use, check settings.

-Check if the view is Dependent.

-Turn off any Cad Imports or Links

-Turn off Annotation Crop in views

-See if there are any Masking Regions applied in the view

-See if there are any Plan Regions in the floor plan

I have tried those and I am still getting the same result.

Side note: This is occurring on more than one project.

Turn off CAD links.
