Revit not snapping correctly / precisely

Capture.PNG

Hi all!

Disclaimer: This is more of a curiosity and annyonce thing, than an actual problem.

I am experiencing this "problem" in a few places in a project I'm working on. There seems to be a certain inaccuracy in the way Revit handels curves which makes snaps occur outside of the actual curve. See the example to the left.

This also applies to the align command – aligning a wall with the pictured curve will produce a wall in line with the line Revit snaps to.

Do note that the units in the screencap is mm so it's not exactly a huge error and has no impact on actual construction, but it's still really annoying. One would expect this behaviour, from a programming perspective, when zooming ridiculously close to a curve, but an error bigger than 1 mm seems like a lot.

Am I doing something horribly wrong or is this another one of Revit's "quirks"? Has anyone experienced something similar?

Hi Magnus,

We may need more information to comment.

  • What exactly are those curves in the screen shot? Are they native Revit elements? a survey background? AutoCAD dwg? Is it a Link? Inserted?
  • What is the radius of each curve.
  • Could it just be a graphics display limitation? (No curve is perfectly displayed on a computer display. This is especially noticeable in AutoCAD).
  • Does turning of Hardware Acceleration make any difference?
  • Is this model in a large coordinate system? Are the survey and project points visible in this view? Where are they in relation to this screen captured element?

You could also consider posting the file here if it’s not too big.
