We have just opened a drawing and found the CAD file missing. Long story but the person who did the drawing isn't with us anymore and my boss is away on holiday so I'm struggling to work out how to overcome the issue. Firstly the way this particular project is so that when a drawing detail is placed on a drawing sheet it disappears from the floorplan tab or the detail tab, etc - this is my first time with a project like this. Basically I have tried to re-import the CAD file by using Import CAD and Link CAD. I get nothing with Import on the sheet it should be on.
Using Import CAD, I can choose where to place the file at ( Datum, Ground, etc ) even though none of these help!
Using link, I can't decide where to place it at and it doesn't appear on the sheet however the file appears in CAD Formats under the Manage Links tab.
Not sure whether as its being imported into a sheet as to what the settings should be.
In a pickle!!
its a bit tricky to understand what your problem is here.......
my understanding is that you have a sheet with a drafting view where you expect to see a .dwg that has been imported by a previous user. and the sheet is blank when you open it. correct?
is there a view on the sheet? check hidden
is the dwg listed in the manage links before you do anything? if it is that means the .dwg exists within the model on at least one view (unless its been deleted from the one view it was brought in to) try doing a <reload from>
if still nothing
1st check there is nothing hidden. on the sheet or in the view.
2nd i would do the import/link again onto the view. if nothing shows - it may be a scale thing - so take off the crop frame and do a zoom extents. if you can still see nothing then drag a box over the whole frame and look in the 'filter' tab to see if its there....... the sheet at least should be there!
try the above - when i was trying to replicate your problem i noticed that when i imported a .dwg directly onto a sheet there apeared to be nothing there - until i did a zoom to extents - and lo-behold - there it was
One of the advantages of linking files is that you can always see the path to where the CAD file lives -
If the file is not there, then you have a real problem!
i agree - thats why i always link
if its not in the manage links dialogue in this case that just means its not linked...... not that its not there where it should / might be?! or anywhere come to that ![]()
heh...I'm guessing it was linked in, from the previous person's workstation vs a network location..
mpwuzhere, I'm actually struggling with the situation you described (trying to find some dwg files imported from somone's local pc but now she can't remember which views she placed them in!!) How can I find out?
If your DWG is 3d, try to isolate it in a 3D view should be easier. If not then well ..... either check each & every view in your model or get a plug-in for the job. My office use CAD File Explorer 2019 for this.
