Revit not selecting all instances of object in entire project

Hello,

I have created a model in-place component which is an extrusion I called Fiber Cement Balcony Trim. When I created the first instance of the trim I never assigned a material to it. I have now created multiple copies of the trim in the project and need to assign a material to it. For some reason, Revit added a stone material to it which I never did which you can see in the Enscape render. No clue why it is doing that. Anyway, if you notice in the render, the last porch I changed each trim piece by editing the extrusion and adding a material. When I try to select all instances of the trim it doesn't work. Throughout the design I had to edit some of the extrusions to match the different balcony sizes but there were only a few to change. I can't imagine in order for me to add a material to all the balcony trim I am going to have to go and change each one separately but right now that seems to be the only solution unless somebody knows a solution. Paint does not work either.

In-place families are single instance families. Every time you copy it, Revit creates a new family. Therefore, editing the family means each family will have to be edited individually.  Because they are single families, the select all instances will only return one instance of the family.

An option would be edit one with a parameter for the material, then replace the other copies with the new one (I know some were tweaked and that would need to be redone but it’s an option).

Sorry, not much help, but now you know.

You can convert the in-place family to a loadable family, insert, and replace all other instances.

As I mentioned, some of those porches are different sizes and I had to adjust the extrusion. If I convert the in-place model to a loadable family and had to make those changes for the different porches would it update all the trim pieces to the new size?

Alrighty, my green Revit ass found a work around on my own. There's a little work involved but **** if it didn't work. I went into Object Styles>Model Objects tab and created a sub-category under Walls called Balcony Trim and assigned the white paint material. I then selected each extrusion one by one >Edit In-Place>select the geometry again and in the properties menu under Identity Data>Subcategory select Balcony Trim. Now all the balcony trim is under that object style and I can change the material and they all change.
