Hello,
I'm reaching out to anyone who can provide more information about the use of ' Revit Multisite'. We currently have a situation that would benefit from using the system described in this post on this forum. Here - Point 4.
This links to another article here which reiterates the same information about how the product is useful but doesn't help with finding out how it is used, setup only that it can be a lengthy process. I have googled and searched through many other links for anything that talks about how this Multisite feature is set up or examples of it being used but have come up empty-handed. Those are basically the only 2 instances I can find the exact term mentioned.
If anyone has any information on this feature or how I can set it up it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Are you the person responsible for the IT infrastructure for your firm? Most of the solutions available require significant technology/computer/networking background AND a decision making role for spending the money involved with each of them. The post you reference is already an extensive list of options. Does each item listed mean something to you?
What do you want to know specifically? Which item do you think will work for your firm?

Yes I handle the IT setup for our firm. I'm specifically interested in Revit multisite as the title suggests which was option 4 on that list. Id like to know how it is set up, any additional costs and products required. Even just a breakdown of the setups required would be fantastic. All anyone seems to be able to top say is that it's complicated but with no detail as to why.
I've never heard of a product called Revit Multisite. The article looks like it is loosely describing Autodesk's Revit Server (software for Revit model sharing) combined with a WAN accelerator hardware/software. The closest thing I saw after a quick search that is related to Revit Multisite is a PDF from Nasuni but it's just referring to file sharing across multiple site. Nasuni and Panzura both offer WAN accelerator file sharing solutions for corporate networks. They both declare support for Revit model sharing.
I doubt anyone can/will tell you how much it costs because there are too many variables. I'd expect to hear, "It's expensive". If your network configuration is already robust you might not have to do as much to get where you need to be.
If you're trying to share Revit models within your firm but across multiple offices through your WAN then you're looking at WAN Accelerator products combined with Revit Server implementation. Cost is directly related to server selection, accelerator hardware and the implementation/configuration of those components as well as maximizing your bandwidth through to each office. That assumes you want to control and manage the resources. You'll have to decide what you need and can afford/manage.
As mentioned in the article an alternative is contracting with a virtualization company to host computers and have your offices connect to their virtual machines. Autodesk has recently restated that virtual machines are not available to network licensing so that means each virtual machine is required to have a stand alone license. That's my understanding, you have to ensure your company is in compliance with Autodesk's licensing terms regardless of the route you take.
You might find after researching these that BIM 360 and hosting projects with Autodesk is a competitive option, or an interim way to share some projects while you build your own infrastructure.
