REVIT LT bug / glitch -- colored leader heads turn back to black.

Not sure if this is the right place to put this.

The leader heads start out the color of the callout text, and then after a while turn to black. They will return to the text color if moved, but then return to black. Regardless of color on screen, they always export to PDF as black.

Discovered Revit LT 23 was available. Tried that -- weird behavior still. This time the black callout head is turning blue. When moved, it will turn back to black.

I think I've determined the issue / workaround. When a new annotation type is created in a new color, all the annotations that share that leader end type change to the new color. In the example below, I created a medium gray annotation type; all my leader ends changed to gray, regardless of their original color.

Workaround: create new leader ends for each color annotation, or don't used colored annotations.

Hassle level: low.

Annoyance level: high.

@a.henry.rose ,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I'll have the teams investigate! Did this start in Revit 2022 or before? Is it all models or just this one? Anyone else having the same issue in your company? Feel free to message me here.

Let us test on our end. Post an RVT containing the rogue leader.

Hi a.henry.rose -

This looks like a legacy issue that has existed for many years.  Nice catch!

I believe the following is true:

  • It happens as early as Revit 2019 (and very likely in releases before that).
  • It happens in both Revit LT AND full Revit.
  • It appears to only affect the Heavy End arrowhead style.
  • The color of the oldest instance of a text note that uses a leader with the Heavy End arrowhead will essentially set the color of the Heavy End for any other text note type that uses that arrowhead in its type.  This fact makes the color changing issue seem somewhat arbitrary.  Note that the text note with the lowest Element ID number is the oldest instance.
  • After making a Heavy End text note type with a new color, the new arrowhead will appear to have the correct color.  But after the project is saved and re-opened, all text notes with the same Heavy End arrowhead will have the same color as the oldest Heavy End text note.  This behavior also makes the color change seem arbitrary.
  • Nudging a text note that has the wrong Heavy End color appears to fix the color so that it matches the note and leader type.  But after save and re-open, the problem will return.
  • This is definitely an irritating bug, and for customers using multi-colored text note types with Heavy End leaders, your workaround seems to be the best:
  1. In the Manage tab, click Additional Settings > Arrowheads.
  2. In the Type drop-down, choose Heavy End 1/8".
  3. Click the Duplicate button.
  4. Change the Name to Heavy End 1/8" - RED.  OK.  OK.
  5. Repeat Steps 1-4 for each of your text type colors.
  6. Select an example of your red text and click Edit Type.
  7. Change the Leader Arrowhead parameter value to Heavy End 1/8" - RED.  OK.
  8. Repeat Steps 6-7 for each of your text colors.

We will endeavor to fix this in an upcoming release, but this should fix the issue for your Heavy End arrowheads!

Thanks again for bringing this to our attention!
