Revit LT 2017 content libraries won't install

I have the Revit LT Content Libraries 2017 as a program but when I open it there is no content.  I've attached a screen shot of the window.  I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times.  The last time I turned off the fire wall.  Still not working. Any ideas?

Jeffery,

Thanks for the reply.  I've worked through the suggestions in the first link Revit: Can't find the Content Library with no luck. I will try the suggestion in the second link of copying it from someone in the office who has it working.  There are also links in there for Revit 2015 and 2016, but nothing yet for 2017.  The third link is identical to the first as near as I can tell.  As I watch it do the install it says it is downloading 240 Mb, the first 25 Mb or so take a few minutes and then it suddenly says its finished and has downloaded the 240Mb. So it seems to me that the installer thinks its getting the files, but in fact it isn't.

Another suggestion that I've tried without success is using the Download Manager link at the bottom of the down load page.  This works fine for Revit 2017, but for Revit LT 2017, I get a HTTP 500 Error.  I've attached a screen shot of the message.

We've recently identified a sporadic issue that will result in content not being installed via the Revit LT 2017 web installer. After our investigation, we found that a required content file is not always included in the extracted files and its absence results in the installation bypassing Revit content files. We are investigating the root cause of this problem and hope to have a resolution in place soon. Until then, the following steps will allow you to work around this issue:

  1. From this post, download the Revit_2017_MasterXML.zip file and extract the contents to a local folder.
  2. Download and run the Revit LT 2017 web installer, Revit_LT_2017_G1_Win_64bit_wi_en-US_Setup.exe.
  3. When the initial Autodesk Revit LT dialog is displayed, click Cancel.
  4. Copy the master.rlt.xml file that was extracted in step 1 and paste it into the C:\Autodesk\WI\Autodesk Revit LT 2017\Content\Revit folder.
  5. Launch the Revit LT 2017 installer using the Revit_LT_2017_G1_Win_64bit_wi_en-US_Setup_webinstall.exe that should reside in your Downloads folder or the folder to which the original Revit_LT_2017_G1_Win_64bit_wi_en-US_Setup.exe was downloaded.
  6. Step through the installation and when you get to the product selection page, expand the Revit LT 2017 Content Libraries entry and verify that the list of content packs is populated and at least one of the underlying option is selected.
  7. Collapse the Revit LT 2017 Content Libraries entry and click Install.

At this point, we've only seen this problem occur with the Revit LT 2017 web installer but based on the numerous reports of Revit content installation problems, a similar problem may impact other Revit versions, including previous releases. For this reason, I've attached zip files that contain the master XML files for each version of Revit 2015, 2016, and 2017. Once the appropriate master XML file is extracted and copied to the appropriate ...\Content\Revit folder, the installation of Revit content should complete successfully.

Tony,

thanks for the detailed instructions.  I had no problems till I got to step 6. "expand the Revit LT 2017 Content Libraries entry and verify that the list of content packs is populated and at least one of the underlying option is selected."  and I couldn't make the Content Libraries expand.  It said that it was installed. (this may be because I successfully copied the entire C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RLT 2017 folder from another person at work who had it successfully installed)  Still, when I opened the Control Panel and clicked on the Autodesk Revit LT Content Libraries 2017 it showed no content still.  So, I clicked on Repair/Reinstall and then selected Reinstall.  And this time it reinstalled and it is working.

Same problem here. I work for an Autodesk Reseller And spent close to 5 hours today getting a client's computer to get the families to install from the trial version thru Adsk website.

I on the other have full blown Revit 2017, but when downloaded Revit LT 2017 though subscription center the same thing occurred on my machine. My Revit 2017 LT has NO families or templates loaded.... URHHHHHH

I think during the install it gets confused IF there is an existing Revit application on the pC.

I'm still unresolved with the families. My next step is to uninstall for the 3rd time clean put my temp and downloaded pervious versions of Revit 2017 LT and try again...

Someone at Autodesk please look into this.

Same Here.
I eventually received content packs from autodesk support, that I installed
in 2 parts.
I'm not sure why those packs would not be in Subscription Center
considering the problem with the install happens quite often.
I made a support ticket and an Autodesk representative took care of it by
emailing me the install packs.

Good Luck.

I'm having the same problem... what's worse.. is when you don't know a thing about Revit... you don't know what's missing.  I've been trying to learn this program not knowing it was never a complete package.

I'll try the work around....#@$%%W#@%^#$@@

For those of you having issues with the families not loading, here is what I found to be successful.

1. Perform whats called "clean uninstall" of the Revit version that is having an issue with the missing families.

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles...

2. Make sure to delete the contents of your windows Temp folder. DO NOT delete the folder itself, just the contents. There will be some things that you won't be able to delete because they are most likely being used, sclick on the option to skip these.

3. Empty trash can.

4.Delete downloaded Revit file(s)

5. Empty trash again.

6. Redownload a fresh copy of Revit from Subscription center, or the virtual agent. See link for the virtual agent. I prefer the agent because it is simple and straight forward, just make sure to get the version you have a license for. For example, "Revit 2017" verses, Building design suite,...etc. Download 1 part at a time.

7. Run the download, and BEFORE you install, make sure to turn off all anti-virus, and real time scanning, and your firewall. ( I know your probably saying, I've never had to do that before....well... just do it now please)

8. Restart your PC, cross your fingers, and wallahhh it should work..

Best of  luck,

Rick

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Revit LT 2017 many times, and each time the content libraries is blank on the product selection page. Can you give screen shots of your solution? How do you "copy the master.rlt.xml file that was extracted in step 1 and paste it into the C:\Autodesk\WI\Autodesk Revit LT 2017\Content\Revit folder"? Thanks.

Here is what you should see when you expand the Revit LT Content Libraries 2017 product entry:

LT Content.png

Depending on your computer's location settings, the default content pack selection may vary.

If your Revit LT install files does not include the master.rlt.xml file in the C:\Autodesk\WI\Autodesk Revit LT 2017\Content\Revit folder, then the list of content packs will not be populated.  To correct this problem, download the attached master.rlt.xml file and then copy and paste it to the C:\Autodesk\WI\Autodesk Revit LT 2017\Content\Revit folder.

Tony, thanks for getting back. It's still not working. Not sure if I'm doing it right. Have attached a screen shot of what I've copied & pasted. Have also tried inserting it into the sub folder 'setup'.

Your screen capture indicates that you are copying the master.rlt.xml file into the C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Revit LT Content 2017 folder, which is not the correct location.  The master.rlt.xml file needs to be copied into the original Revit LT installation files.  If you are using the Revit LT 2017 web installer, then the correct location would be the C:\Autodesk\WI\Autodesk Revit LT 2017\Content\Revit folder.

At this point, my recommendation would be to access the Programs and Features page in the Windows Control Panel.  There you should find an entry for Autodesk Revit LT Content Libraries 2017, which needs to be uninstalled.  Once that is complete, you need to copy the master.rlt.xml file into C:\Autodesk\WI\Autodesk Revit LT 2017\Content\Revit folder.  Next, you'll need to launch the Revit LT 2017 installer using the Revit_LT_2017_G1_Win_64bit_wi_en-US_Setup_webinstall.exe that should reside in your Downloads folder or the folder to which the original Revit_LT_2017_G1_Win_64bit_wi_en-US_Setup.exe was downloaded.

Once the Revit LT installer launches, you should be able to advance through to the product page, where you can expand the Revit LT Content Libraries 2017 entry and you should see a populated list of content packs.  If so, select the desired content packs and continue with their installation.
