Revit Links in View templates (Revit template file)

I am creating a revit template, and currently working on the view templates of floor plans.

I need to set up all the standard settings of linked files for future projects, so the linked files' settings will be the same all the time.

The problem is that I cannot control display settings until the link is not loaded, revit sends me alerts - "Display settings cannot be modified because the link is not loaded" (see attached photo). The links in my projects are not loaded.

Is there any ways to adjust VG settings in view templates, without linked file?

Thank you.

If you load the links, you will be able to set the overrides.

Why aren't the links loaded?

Rob,

The links are not loaded because it is a template file, so I want to set up VG settings for revit links, so they remain the same for all future revit links.

If I will load a link and do the overrides, will the settings remain when I will reload a different file?

Yes, as long as do a "Reload From". If you remove the link, you lose the settings.

You might be able to unload the link as you are doing now, but only after your settings are locked in. I've never tried it.

Ok, I will try.

How can I lock my VG settings in view templates?

Can't.

I found it quite effective to tell users that, if there is ever a problem with the view settings, they would be replaced with the default ones from the project template undoing everything they changed. I also trained users to set-up their own view templates that could be applied using the "Temporary View Properties". That way when they weren't working with the temp settings, the permanently applied template would be active.
