Revit Link Revit Model

Hello,

I linked a revit model and it only displays dashed lined in the level 1 floor plan view. What am I doing wrong?

Open an elevation and see if there is anything from the link.

Yes, I'm seeing a elevation view. We have a custom template and it has a room built on level one but if I go to the South elevation view, I can see the exterior. However, it has a very long blue box around it. Is that because it was put at a high elevation?

Thank you,

Where is your Level 1 on that elevation?

level 1 is 0 but the start of the elevation of the house is at 6236'. i'm assuming the architect did that.

if i set that to level 1, i still see the dashed lines in the level 1 view. do i need to ask the architect to send it a different way?

It means the link is way above your Level 1.  Go to the elevation view and move it down so that its Level 1 (or whatever the name of the Level)  matches your Level 1.  Then select the link and acquire coordinates.

I would just re-link it, choose Auto Center to Center, then move it on elevation to match levels.

I'm betting the Link isn't within the View Range.  Set Top, Bottom and Depth to Unlimited and see if it appears.

Also, FWIW: it looks like the Link a long way away from the Parent Project's Internal Origin.  It's conceivable that the Link could be so far away that it isn't visible when you do a Zoom All.

Thank you. That sort of gives me what I want but I'm wondering if I should keep the elevations for lighting analysis or other reasons.

Could I use my custom template and then set the coordinates to what the file from the architect is and link it in?

Or is there a reason I should have the coordinates at 0,0?

I was able to see it once I set the view range to unlimited. I want to make sure I'm drawing at the right coordinates. Should I import them into the project?

also, it seems like i should probably edit the Revit file a bit since i don't need all of what's available. we're doing the interiors so basically just need floor/ceiling plans. we'll come up with our own interior elevations.

Move the Link as a whole to where you want it in your Project and then Acquire Coordinates. Now your Project has the same Coordinates as the Link.

....just to clarify: Move the Link in both Plan View AND Elevation View closer to the Internal Origin.  There's no reason that the Link should be positioned thousands of feet from the Internal Origin.

No.  The elevation of the link in your model has nothing to do with light analysis.  In fact, if it is too far from the Origin it will give defects to your model views and rendering.
