I am on Revit 2017 with Windows 10 and Revit is not creating any backup files (001) etc. I have set the maximum to 10 and still no backups where the central file is located. I am only working with the central file.

Hi @newtron31,

Thanks for writing in. Central files do not create backup files (.001), but stand alone files do.  Central files do not use bak files, instead the changes you make are kept track of and you can roll back your file to one of those locations.

Revit does not create backup files. Since you are using a central file, you can choose the option "create new local copy" while opening the file. This will create a local file on your machine. You can choose to have a new time stamp added each time so that you do not overwrite a previous version of the model. You can then go into your local revit files to obtain the local copy.

Hi!
When you working in revit with central files you have backups too, but they're just looks different. You don't have a usual rvt.001 etc files. You have a backup folder in the same location with central file. In this video you can find all you need to know.
