Revit freezes when clicking on a textbox (e.g. Description under Identity) in Material editor dialog in Revit 2022.1.6 and 2023.1.4

Products and versions covered:

Revit 2022.1.6 Revit 2023.1.4

Issue:

When clicking on a textbox control in the material editor dialog, Revit hangs up and stops working. This issue happens to all textbox controls (e.g. Name, Description, Comments, Mark, etc.), which allow users to input texts, in the Material editor dialog.

Causes:

This was introduced by the QT library version upgrade in 2022.1.6 and 2023.1.4, which was to mitigate security vulnerabilities.

Status:

Product team is investigating it and we will update with the information as available.

Thanks,

I recently upgraded my Revit 2023 to the latest version available. Shortly after that I started having the same problem. I hope Autodesk will resolve it quickly because this makes is impossible to work with the materials browser!

What should we do in order to solve that problem? I've experienced it in 2 pcs, in both 2022 and 2023 versions

Click on the Tag to open the Change Parameter Values Dialog Box and enter the missing Parameter Value directly inside this Dialog Box.

Hover mouse cursor over Tag and left-click once to highlight Tag and then move cursor over a text value (or question mark) and left-click once to activate the pop-up dialog box.

I don't know how to be more specific. Click once on the Tag Label to highlight the Tag and click again on the Tag Label to open the dialog box.

Maybe someone can post a video for you.  Going to be a very short one though.  😉

But which tag label?

Should I put a tag on the element I want to edit its material? Then edit the tag properties, save the family, close it, load it into the project, assign the new family label to the element, then open again the material browser, and try to change the description or any other text box?

Maybe I'm missing something here. Your original questions was:

"What should we do in order to solve that problem? I've experienced it in 2 pcs, in both 2022 and 2023 versions"

This thread's topic is about an issue that is preventing users from entering a parameter values on the Identity tab of the Material in the the Material Browser.  My suggestion was to approach this through the "back door" - so to speak.  You can populate the Identity tab Parameter value fields by way of the Change Parameter Values Dialog Box  of a Material Tag.

When will the fix for Revit 2023 be released?

I just spent hours on a few computers manually uninstalling 2023.1.4 (including registry edits) because the uninstaller did not work properly, then reinstalling 2023, then updating to 2023.1.3.

That is not a reasonable workflow for a busy office. We have lost work due this issue.

We need a real fix from Autodesk, today if possible.

Autodesk really needs to rethink the uninstall process of patches.  These updates that take down functionality of a company are not acceptable.  Uninstalling is not a workflow to fix hundreds of installs.

Please release soon the fix.  Thanks

First of all. We need update as soon as possible. Also, Autodesk should send some global info for Revit users that we have problem in this and that. Here you have workarounds, update will be released soon.

I tried workaround with schedules.

1. Create material schedule with category where you need to rewrite your Identity information

2. Add needed parameters into your schedule

3. Rewrite them

You can still duplicate materials, but you can't enter Identity tab and click there.

I dont know if this helps anyone but I have noticed that in my Revit 2022 if I use the schedule first and enter the data  there, then I can go back to the Materials Broswer and I can then edit that materials data to that same material only . Just because you enter data for one materials doesnt stop the freeze to a new material so it has to be done to each material, otherwise a material that never had data will freeze up revit again.

create tag with parameter that you want to label, i.e. mark, comments, description, then go to elevation tag direct on element , then click on tag , input the information that you want to add.
