Good morning and Merry Christmas!
Is Revit good for urban planning? So not considering a single building, but a larger area, with less detail and mainly creating the volumes of the buildings? Thank you.

It depends what you to get out of it. If you want topographic map overlay, I would go with Sketchup, Rhino, or Formit or Infrawork. Then use those software and put it into Revit for further development. As well look at Testfit as another way to look at urban planning. It has some cool feature which allows you configure building shape on the fly and then able to push it into Revit for further development.
Hi, thanks for asking.
Urban Design is not really my domain, so I will let the others add thier thoughts on this.
Maybe infraworks would be a better choice?

There have been quite some third party plugin for landscape and infrastructure modelling in Revit, try YouTube for some tutorials on that..
Here is what I found and maybe something in the direction of what you are looking into:
Hope that helps.
