I've just downloaded the new revit 2018

I have taken a solidworks defeature model assembly which is a dumb file.

makes one part out of 20.  than I saved it as a dxf file.

Than I opened it in revit. it comes in with the one view.

how do I get this to be a Revit BIM file and put in the IES files.

of the light output.

and does it become a 3D file so the architects can use it.

I am assuming you are creating a lighting fixture.  

- Create a new family using one of the Lighting fixture family templates

- Import the DXF file in and move it to the correct location, pay attention to the import unit so that the model comes in with the correct size

- Coordinate the Light source location with the fixture model

- Enter the family type property dialog and pick the IES file you want to assign to the light source
