Revit file sharing SLOW

Hi all,

We are team of 3 designers working together on a project. We have saved our Central file onto our NAS server. However, the saving and syncing or even basic working on our local files become very cumbersome, Revit works very slowly. Is there anything we could do to spend up the Revit?

In a proper setting, there is revit accelerator or revit server. However we don't think we could afford that as we are just small design team.

Thank you so much for your help.

A NAS is maybe not the best for storing your central files. A normal (windows) server should be better equipped for this job. However with a small team of only 3 persons and a reasonable NAS (network speed, memory, processor) this still should work.

You also mention that working on you local files become cumbersome. I assume your local files are place on your local computer (e.g. C drive ) and not on your NAS?

This then basically has nothing to do with your NAS or network anymore. When working on your local file (on your local computer) should work Ok. In this case it is a matter of you local computer specs e.g. (memory, processor, local hard drive free space).

Can it be that your project files are very large. If so than you also will have to look at that.

Depending on your network and your NAS syncing can be slow. But if you do not do this too often this should be no major problem.

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.

I encounter the same problem.

My central file is in the server oversea which we access through VPN, when we create local on our computer to work on the file, it is very slow. However, if I detach the file it works fine.

I always understand that when creating local file, you are not directly connect to the central server but instead working on your own computer.

So I am curious how it becomes so slow and if there are any ways to improve the performance.

Thank you in advance!
