This question is related to this topic (getting a line based family to cut a wall properly using a void extrusion). After that was solved, I've created similar families for the head and sill tracks. Well, on this project (a custom house) we have separated the floor and ceiling finishes from the structure, because that is the easiest way to get them to read correctly in all views. The floor track conveniently matches the thickness of the finish floor. But the ceiling based family of course cuts only the thin finish ceiling and not the structure above. Is there a way for a void extrusion in a family to cut all building elements and not just the host? TIA for any ideas.

Hi @PDSF ,
Can you try using Join Geometry, and join the Ceiling Finish to the Ceiling Structure.

Leave the Void in the Family unattached. That is, not cutting anything in the Family. Check "Cuts with Voids when Loaded" and load into Project and use Cut Geometry multiple times to cut multiple System Families/Types with the Family Void.

@barthbradleyWhere is this "Cuts with Voids when Loaded" option? I don't see it. Revit 2023. Also, I did try this with a nonhosted family but was never able to select the void extrusion or anything in the family.

@joe_keoghthat did not work unfortunately.

Post the Family
Here is the ceiling hosted version which does cut the ceiling. This is the only way I have gotten it to work, in conjunction with an in-place void extrusion which cuts the roof structure. I really dislike model in place elements and would love to get this to work.

Create the void family not cutting the host and use cut geometry manually to cut multiple components in project.
