Revit Family lines shown differently in Project

Anonymous
Not applicable

I have a Revit family for a pile (that looks like in the pic attached to the post). Its is basically a extrusion + a nested detail family made of 2 lines (dash dot style) for the way I want to show it in the plan.

I inserted the family into my project and it behaves as expected when the top level of the pile is aligned with the level I do the view from (or when it is higher). But, when the top level of the pile is lower than the level of the view, I see all the elements of the family with dashed lines (as it can be seen in Piles-Top View screenshot attached), while I would like to see the extrusion with dashed lines, but the 2d nested family for the symbol as axis line (as modeled in the family).

Has anyone experienced the same problem? Any suggestions?

Check assigned subcategories in the family and your view Visibility graphics/Object styles in project.

Already done that. The assigned subcategory for the symbol is Axis and the Object style for that subcategory in the model is set to Dash dot.

Probably I will insert the detail family directly into the project and position it where the piles are. But, this is not the best way to do it, because I will be having 2 families in the same place for only 1 element.

Difficult to see what you're making. Perhaps try to assign your own Subcats for the family linework and set these to what you want in your project (in family go to manage --> Object styles --> new under modify subcategories).

When the elements is below the Bottom of the View Range and above the View Depth it is shown with Beyond linestyle.

Give the column an OFFSET FROM LEVEL (base or top depending on how you placed them)

  • >>> VALUE = EQUIV. to the depth of the PILE CAP which will cover it
  • >>> When covered by a cap or slab; from the view tab, you can show hidden line to show it dashed

OR

Associate DEPTH and PRIMARY RANGE BOTTOM to the same level and set offset value to  "0"
