Revit family large file size

Hi,

I am preparing road sign revit family. But when I create and save it, file size takes about 6-7 MB. That's huge. It is made of solids 1x1m. I met different families composed of bigger solids and they takes no more than 1 MB. I tried some solution found on internet, purging, saving file as compact file. It doesn't bring expected results.

Where is the problem? Some can advice me how to reduce this family? Example in attachment.

The secondary sign family you within the one you have attached is quite large then you've copied it a few times within your family which is probably compounding the problem. I've opened it a purge out everything that wasn't being used in your family then saved it as a compact file. then reloaded it into your original sign family. its now 1.5MB but its still quite large for what it is. Hope this helps sort of..

Thanks for answer and advice,

but I am not sure if I can purge nested family, because all of signs which are there, are used in other families. So probably I can't purge it.

When I was preparing the nested family, I was copying elements from other file and then rotated them. Maybe this caused problems...

I suppose one solution might be to save each of the nested families individuality.. might be a bit of a pain but the you can load only the required ones into each of you sign types rather than all of them at once and changing the viability.  Might not be suitable for your workflow but could sort your file size issue.

Or don't use nested families, but prepare each sign individually... Probably it is solution.

If I only know how could happen approach of creating family with nested family, shame...

Ok, thanks for ideas.

So probably I must prepare it again.

- Create each unique geometry as a nest family.  For example: a family for rectangular signs instance parameters to flex the Width x Height x Thickness;  a family for a round signs with instance parameter to flex the Diameter x Thickness;  a family for model text, with instance parameters to flex the text height, thickness, and content

- Load them in to a blank family, they have instance parameters so you can change the sizes for different instances directly via properties, or you can associate the nested parameters with the host parameters should you need to change the size in projects.

Thx for idea.

But the signs have different shapes inside geometry and different colors. When the geometry will be in nested family, can I create inside it different forms and allocate to them other colors/materials?
