Revit Error: The fabrication model attached to file could not be saved

Revit 2019

I'm getting "The fabrication model attached to file: <filename.rvt> could not be saved."

The model has no fabrication parts, no fab configurantions whatsoever...

Is there a way to delete the "fabrication model".

The model is upgraded from Revit 2018.

I have Audited on opening.

2018-12-04_15-54-55.pngCould you check your advanced  land/region Settings in Control panel?

It helped me to uncheck option Beta: Unicode UTF-8 in the window of the region settings of the operating system Windows 10.

@Viveka_CD

I too am having this problem and it is becoming a very critical issue to my project. The project was created in 2018, the upgraded to 2019 using a french language computer. I have since joined the project using an english machine. I get this error every time I try to create a central file. I am to do coordination on a multimillion dollar facility using glue and can't even save the file. It is beyond frustrating.

I have tried opening an eTransmit file. Does not work. I have tried installing 2019.2 update and my entire model is  missing. This is just insanity. I need help ASAP.

I'm right mouse clicking on a sheet in the Revit file, and selecting "Save to new file...". After providing a name for the file in the save dialog, I get the "The fabrication model attached to file could not be saved" error message , and no file is saved. Has anyone found a work-around to this issue? Seems like it's been around for quite sometime.

Thanks

I have just had the same issue reported by one of our clients. This file caused their project to crash whenever they tried to link it. When opening the file, the startup view (drafting) showed up fine, but when opening any other view, Revit would crash. The client was running Revit 2019.2.1 (latest update).

Strangely, I had no problem opening or changing views in the same model on my computer (exact same Revit version). I tried creating a new version of the model, by placing a 3D view on an empty sheet, and "Save to file..". Just the same as suggested elsewhere in this thread. Revit would not save the model, and gave me the same warning as well "The fabrication model attached to file could not be saved".

Time for a workaround... Selecting all geometry in the model, and trying to create a group, with the intent of saving the group as a model. Now Revit warned me that some elements could not be grouped, and provided me with the ID-numbers of those elements. The elements were identical to many other elements in the same model (a structural column and a steel beam / structural framing).

I replaced the elements with identical ones, and tried grouping again - no problem. I tried saving the 3D view as a new file - no problem, no warnings.

I send the modified file back to the client, and everything seems to work. Of course YRMV, but I hope this at least can push you in the right direction.

Hello KB,

Thanks for the Grouping tip! I tried grouping the model elements I wanted to export, and a number of objects in the model showed up in the error dialog as not being able to group. All of the items were either steel connection elements or structural elements affected by steel connections (cut, for example). Once I deleted those elements within the error dialog, the group completed successfully. I then exploded the group, after which I was able to successfully save the sheet to a new model. It seems that Revit has issues  grouping or exporting a model which contains steel connection elements, and which seems to be triggering the initial "fabrication model" error. I'm hoping this can be fixed.

I have switched to new computer and I got a same problem and I tried everything. Even I deleted all model and removed all links and still I can't save the file but If I open it on  old computer I can save it.  Any idea what could be a problem?

Hello @dbaldzhiev
I am having the same issue on one of my teams models.

The model in question is up in BIM360 Docs, was started in Revit 2019.2 and returns the error only for certain users.
Like yourself - there was no fabrication model created, edited etc.

Did you come to a solution which resolved your issue?

Best Regards.

Good afternoon. I'm having the same problem, but I use Windows 7. Where can I find Unicode UTF-8 box?

Thank you,

Maybe there are several reasons for this happening. The way I solved it
some time ago was by messing up with my localization settings (in windows
10 flipping the utf switch as suggested). When I got it fixed I also set
all my localization settings to English United States. I can only assume
there is some date or units formatting indiscrepancy in the fabrication
model...

I had this issue arise on another user's 2019 installation recently.
Various options to resolve were attempted. What resolved the issue was a clean uninstall and re-install of Revit 2019.2.2.

Hope that helps others experiencing the issue!

I also still get the message if I delete everything and purge. I just got this file from someone else. Is there something that this other person should do??

Thanks

Wow! It works!! Thank you so much! Such a stupid setting! I didn't notice the additional settings. I hate how there's the simple windows 10 settings and the windows 7 settings are almost hidden.

Thanks,

Marc
