Revit collaboration and workset issues

Bear with me while I try to explain what is happening. My team and I recently started working on a project, there are 9 of us and we have divided the building into sections utilizing worksets. We have just started working in the project at the same time and are having major issues with ownership of elements. For example, I am working in one section of the building on its particular workset, and my team member is another section working on another area. We are having to grant requests and sync multiple times a minute. I also have a team member working in the same workset but on a different section of the given area. Maybe we are not understating worksets fully but we are in desperate need of help with this issue as I have not found anyone who has had similar struggles.

Thank you in advance

That's a lot of Borrowing. Maybe narrow the scope of the Worksets?

sorry if this sounds elementary, but you each are checking out the worksets you want to work on when you open the file?  It sounds like no worksets are checked out, and you are simply borrowing elements when you edit them.

One thing that might help is to turn on Worksharing Display (its on the view control bar at the bottom of each Revit View Window.  This will color-code the worksets so that you can visually see what is on each workset.

Actually, it sounds more like people are taking ownership of entire worksets. This should never be done unless there is a need to lock down a workset so that no one else can work on it.

If that is not the case, and ownership of these objects is because of something like people editing them, that's just the nature of the beast.

If the ownership appears to be a random thing and happens even if people are not even touching these objects or worksets, it could be the result of a known issue that happens on BIM360.

It could be, as you mentioned, a case of not fully understanding worksets. A lot of people coming from an AutoCAD background wrongly see them as an equivalent of layers and as a result overuse and/or misuse them. In your case, I might consider doing away with using them until a need for them is identified.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Hi Rob,

The ownership is being assigned at random. I wasn't aware that there was a common issue similar to this with BIM360. Do you know anymore information about this issue or how to resolve it?

Thank you for your response!

Scott,

This is a great suggestion, thank you. I didnt include this in my original post, but we are also using design options and have multiple people working in the same design option but on different worksets. Could this have anything to do with it?

Design Options are definitly the cause.

Only one person should be working in the Design Option.
