Is there a way to configure Revit so that it autosaves to the server as opposed to the local workstation? If so is it configurable - e.g. setting it to every hour for instance?
Same query for Revit Server setup.
-Revit does not really "autosave" like other software apps. It does have "save reminder interval".
-A local ( non-workshared) project will make "backup copies" with am .0001, .0002 file extension, etc.
-So, if you are working with a team setup--workshared Central File, locals on workstations, synch back to central
-Then you can have the server backup all files off hours, onto a NAS or SAN, etc for emergency re-creation of a corrupt central file, etc.
Thanks for the quick response.
"So, if you are working with a team setup--workshared Central File, locals on workstations, synch back to central"
This is how we work most of the time. Is there any way to configure the synch back timing?
Is there any way other than improved hardware to speed up file opens and closes? Some configuration/tweaking within Revit that would improve performance with the exact same hardware - e.g. buffer settings, NIC settings, etc.
-I don't know of a way to have all users synch automatically. Have the Team use Communicator, so users are not synching simultaneously.
-RAM: Revit is a memory hog. The more RAM on the server and workstations the better. Same for CPU speed/quality.
-GPU: Don't waste money on super high-end graphics cards/GPUs. It won't give a gain in speed.
-Model management is key. Use Worksets, but not TOO many. When opening the file, you can selectively choose which worksets to open. This can speed up opening times.
-Watch out for corrupt Families.
-Purge/Audit Central file on a regular basis.
-Review and fix Warnings. Model performance will improve ( or NOT--if you ignore the Warnings and let them accumulate!)
