Revit and CPU Core counts

I am looking for a Laptop for school. I am confused on the CPU stuff.

It states for the CPU it is a 8th Generation Quad Core Intel® Core i5 or i7 Processor, 1.6 GHz base frequency, up to 3.4 GHz with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology.

I don't know what it means of it Revit will work on it.

I am trying to save money and get what will work.

Any help is a plus.

Dan

You don't want something that Revit will just 'run on'. For example, I would never recommend the 'entry level' specs on the link @barthbradley posted. If you are looking at laptops (and on a budget) you will most likely be coming across two CPU's... the Intel i7-7700HQ and the new 8th Gen i7-8750H. Both are fine for Revit.

8GB RAM is the absolute minimum, but if you can find 16GB RAM you will be much better off.

As a student, consider other 3D programs / visualization and rendering software you may be using. Ensure you have a graphics card that meets the min requirements of those programs as well. So if you plan on using Enscape, Lumion, 3Ds Max or similar... you need something suitable, don't just look at Revit.

And storage, if you are on a budget, you will likely be finding many machines with only 128GB SSD. You will run out of space quickly, so if this is something you end up with, I would also recommend purchasing a 1 or 2GB portable storage device.
Again, if your budget allows, 256GB SSD + 1TB hard drive will give you most flexibility.

hope it helps.

p.s. search these forums, this question and other peoples recommendations / advice comes up A LOT.

You said "I am trying to save money and get what will work". The Link I provided is what will work.  I have no idea what your budget is, or how you intend to use Revit.

...Highest affordable CPU speed rating is recommended.   Speed rating=Clock Speed (measured in GHz).
