Revit AC unit Family - 2D CAD imports to elev and plan vies - visibilty issue

HI all

I wish to create a family of indoor AC unit, wall based. I don’t need to see in in 3D, But only in 2D views-  plan (hidden) , sections and inside elevations for some reasons regarding the permit plans....

I created a family with 3D mass at the size of the unit, and imported from AutoCAD the side, elev and plan 2d views.

I created a label dimension for Hight (CL) , and aligned the 2D files to the 3D mass.

In the side and placement elevation all is ok – the 2D files move up and down according to the Hight Lable dimension.

The problem – in plan view my View-range cut plan in 120 cm. But the AC unit is at 220 CM. so the 2D import to plan view is not visible. As mentioned I need to see it in plan view in my model in hidden lines.

Any Tips or advice? Tx

Depending on the family category you used, the visibility/graphic representation may vary.

CASE 1:

If you use Casework of Generic Model, those categories will show in the plan view when they are above the cut plane but within the Primary Range Top of the view

CASE 2:

If you are using a family Category like Mechanical equipment for scheduling purposes, then you can do either of the following:

  1. In elevation view of the mech. family, add an invisible model line that extends from the bottom of the extrusion downwards to reach the cut plane ie: 1100mm from level (in such case the family will be cut even when the extrusion is above the cut plane)
  2. Model the extrusion in a generic model >>> check the box Shared >>> Nest into a Mechanical Equipment family (when you load into the project the 2D graphics will be treated similar to CASE 1  above

Which did you try?

What family category are you using?

If you are using a generic model category, check your view range (AC unit should be between cut plane and top range)

Upload the family with the 2D CAD I can fix and post a screencast showing how

In the family you uploaded, the 2D should be added in the shared generic model (not in the mechanical equipment family) and the invisible line should be vertical, also in the generic family.
