Revit 2025 crashes every time after closing a file

Started using Revit 2025 this week and everything works great until I close a project/family etc. file. It's a guaranteed crash every time no matter what. Here's all the things I've tried so far:

  • Multiple PC reboots
  • Disabled all addins
  • Deleted Revit.ini in UserDataCache and AppData
  • Uninstall and fresh install (tried both custom install and basic install)
  • All available Windows updates installed
  • Updated to latest graphics card drivers

I'm running out of ideas. Previous versions of Revit (2022/2023/2024) work just fine.

Revit version

25.2.0.38
20240715_1515(x64)
2025.2

Windows 11 Enterprise 23H2

Build 22631.4317

Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22700.1041.0

BTW my colleague tried this with a similarish PC without crashes but he's running Windows 10.

Any Addins?

Revit 2025 functions differently regarding the API/Addins/Dynamo etc.

Could be a R2024 addin version is also loaded into Revit 2025.

Also look into the journal

Yes I do have addins and had them disabled (moved away from C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Revit\Addins\[Version]), but now that you mentioned them I took a closer look and found out there are three additional paths where they could reside:

C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Revit\Addins\[Version]
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins

Turns out there was a Leica CloudWorx hiding in the first path mentioned above and that indeed was the cause for the crashes. So problem solved, thanks for nudging me in the right direction!
