  • Scroll bars are hard to see (medium gray on slightly lighter gray). They only get darker when you select them but work whether or not you're right on them.
  • Text is gray on lighter gray in palettes, even when the option isn't locked.  Locked text is even harder to read being only slightly darker than background.
  • Fill-in boxes on the option bar are the same color as the option bar, making it difficult to tell whether it is editable.
  • Other ribbon items are too simplifed or too light. Some things that were black and white are now in color. Other things that had a light blue background when selected are medium gray obscuring the foreground elements, like the pick lines button.
  • Everything is flat looking. Losing the drop shadows on some buttons didn't improve their look.

Dark theme is generally more readable but fails with hover color of most of the buttons. Going from darker gray background to slightly darker is almost imperceptible.

Agreed across the board. My old eyes strain way too much on either scheme, but the new "light" scheme is virtually unreadable.

Giving us something new as an option is fine and dandy, but not at the expense of destroying the existing.

Please change it back, or at least provide more contrast!

I completely agree! I tried dark mode for awhile but found the icons were too faded to be easily visible, so switched back to light mode -- and that's when I realized the grey text was just as hard to read that way, too!

I seriously thought all the grey text below appeared grey because the Project Browser was inactive (the way things often grey out when something else is selected), but this is its normal appearance:

Why do I get the feeling that AutoDesk doesn't test their products with anyone over 40?

Hi,

I also experience the same trouble when look the interface of Revit 2024. Is there any way to edit the interface as before?

Did you try the zoom option for the browser/properties bar? I think that came with the 2024.1 update. Making the letters larger may help. Put mouse pointer on the bar you want to adjust, hold CTR, and the mouse wheel will zoom in and out.

What's your monitor size/resolution? I'm on 43" 4K monitors, so that likely helps me see things. But I have been using R2024 since it was released and the only time I ever think of the new UI is when I see these threads. I don't use older versions, so I don't see the difference and it is normal to me. I assume if you use new and older versions, you see a difference and that may be part of the problem.

The only time I stumbled is when the option bar (when you place or select something) looks like it is grayed out and I think it is "grayed out" because I can't adjust it. But you actually can adjust. but now that I know, it isn't an issue.

I didn't know one could do that; your tip is very helpful, thanks.

Having said that, I still don't see the reason AutoDesk can't allow user-tweakable menu-text colour.  Or at least have one colour that's optimized for the light mode, and a second colour optimized for the dark.  Instead, it seems they just tried to choose a middle grey that could (sort-of) serve both (doing neither job perfectly).

There is a feature request you can vote on. I voted for it even if I'm really not bothered by the new UI.

I just tried dark mode the first time. I know it is subjective, but it was so depressing, I had to undo it within seconds.

I agree, if they made a change to something that was fine (and definitely will be subjective), some user setting to adjust would be nice.

It is awful!  I'm flabbergasted that such a terrible change was implemented - couldn't possibly be by someone who actually USES the program...

Not sure if this is right place for this but it is the nearest subject for my feedback. We have left moving to 2024 until all our consultants were ready or made the upgrade so only just starting to open all our projects to 2024.

My very first impression, and sorry to be negative but do not like the addition of colour (yes this is how it spelt in English) I think it takes the professionalism out of the product and makes it look very "micky mouse" (dumb down and child like). and as an older user totally agree with some of the comments on here about the light grey. Can we have a toggle that switches this back please. Change for the sake of change not an improvement to the system on this occasion sorry.

Upgrading projects to 2024 has been causing some very serious issues. Read this thread before upgrading any projects.

@hanksteinhardt - this post has been edited due to Community Rules & Etiquette violation.

If not being able to tell the difference between being grayed out and just grey was the only messed up thing about 2024 I'd consider using it but I haven't found a part of it that hasn't been screwed up. I might be stuck with this version for one project but I'm going back to 2022 as soon as this nightmare is over.

Really? The entire program is messed up? Surprised I haven't heard more about it.

Have you tried Product Feedback?

Yes! Hard to see / read now! I don't get why they got rid of some the outlines on the icons. They kind of dissolve - worse when the resolution is set to smaller to get more real estate.
Wasn't broke before - no need to fix! Hopefully Autodesk will revert back in 2025. 🙂

extreme disappointet to see, that this issue hasn't been adresses in 2025. There are hardly any new features anyway, but not basic functionality/readability could be restored. Everything in the project borwser and Properties panel still looks greyed out! Please leave black text black! not some form of grey!

totally agree. Black text needs to be black on white in pro software! Not grey on white. Grey on white you can do if you want to look stylish on Instagram, tick tock or snapchat.
