Revit 2023: How to change the dimension of the selected object?
I couldn’t figure out why the Revit does not show the dimension of the selected object to allow changing it. Currently, as an object gets selected, the dimension is enabled for other objects!
Are there any settings that enable changing the dimension of the selected object?
Selecting an element activates dimensions to LOCATE it. To change the length of that wall, select the top or bottom wall joining to it, then the length of the wall you want to change will be available for you to change.
Another case is when the wall is alone, not joining to any other walls, then selecting it shows the length and you and type in a new value to change.
Activate dimension only shows when it is perpendicular to the object selected. If you pick the two walls as shown in the screenshot, then the active dimension for that wall will appear.
Thank you guys for the help. I’m still having the enquires below

- How to let the dimension measure the outer face of the wall? Do I need to move the “blue circle” manually each time? Place permanent a dimension to the outer face of the wall.
- How we call the “blue circles” according to Revit terminology? Wall end node.
- How to differentiate in names between the dimensions that appear upon selection and that we draw with the dimension tools? Do you call both of them dimension? Temporary dimensions vs permanent dimensions.
Thank you ToanDN for the elaboration. This is very useful
