Revit 2022 and sketchup

I am having difficulty importing SketchUp families all of a sudden. I used to be able to download a file from the 3D warehouse and drop it into a Revit family then import it into Revit. However recently, when I drag the SketchUp file into Revit, nothing comes in. I did a bit of research and it looks as though Revit supports sketch 2017 and older however the 3D warehouse now only lets you download 2018 and newer. Is anyone else having this problem?

The 3D warehouse has such variety in its content that I am really missing it.

Open them in SketchUp and save down to 2017 or an older version that Revit accepts.

🙂 3 options

  • You need to open it in Sketchup and save to V7 or earlier then take it to Revit
  • OR import that 2018+ Sketchup to a third Application which accepts newer versions of Sketchup >> then export it from there to a format suitable for Revit
  • or wait on the updates that allows Revit to use later versions of Sketchup

That is interesting...and fishy!! I was expecting the follow up question on the free application/software that does that but apparently...

Sketchup has a free web-based version that lets you back save. I was trying to do it through the stand-alone 2017 sketchup...which didn't work.

However, you can back save when you download the sketchup file from the web-based platform. Problem solved. 🙂

By God and Heavens please do stick to that... IMPO I find it interesting yet fishy when someone immediately say ok and has no curiosity to explore alternative/better ways 🙂

Can SketchUp 2017 even open SKP files from a newer version (2018 and newer as you said earlier)?

FWIW: when I run across a problem importing a SKP into Revit, I usually import it into AutoCAD via ImportSKP Add-in and then insert the DWG to Revit.

I have been do this at least once a day and I wish there was a better way to use skp in Revit. Autodesk must fix this to be able to use newer versions of skp. In addition the saving back to use directly in a family and to export to Autocad same strips the skp model of lots of its properties. Ofcourse we can do some extra work to up it back up a little but for sure this procedure need to be enhanced.
