Revit 2022.1.1 stalls/crashes when trying to switch 3d view from hidden-line to realistic

Running Windows 10pro on Lenovo laptop

Intel i7 10750 @ 2.6GHz

32GB RAM

8 GB GPU Nvidia RTX 2070 w/ maxQ

Everything ran fine on Revit 2021 until I upgraded.

Things I have done:

-removed all extraneous views, families, etc.  File is now down to ~58 MB

-purged unused

-audited and purged

-tried opening from the button, from the open dialog, from file explorer

- verified hardware acceleration was turned on for the version

-verified Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling turned on and specifically have "high performance" set in Windows Graphics settings for Revit 2022

-Installed Hotfix 2022.1.1

-Clean uninstall and reinstall of graphics card driver

-uninstall and reinstall of Revit 2022

Still just hangs indefinitely if I a) try to switch to a 3D view that was previously in "realistic" in the 2021 version or b) try to apply "realistic" view to a hidden line 3D view

I am at my wits end, and of course I have a Monday deadline.  I'd really rather not have to recreate the changes I've already did in a 2021 version, but if I have to I will.  Thanks for any help.

Hi @aschererMVJZT
Thank you for posting to the forum,  I'll be glad to help.

When Revit crashes, Is there a form to send to Autodesk?   Is there a CER number provided?
I'm not having an issue with your model but perhaps because I don't have access to custom material images or the linked models.

I've opened 3D View 21 - 24 and switched to realistic.

Are all of the material textures available to you?   On the View Tab, If you try to Render, Are there any missing appearance images listed?
Are there materials in the view that may be using these images within their material definition?  Manage>Materials>Appearance Tab... Expand sections like Masonry, Relief Pattern or Bump, .  Is there yellow exclamation at any of these images?

If all of the jpg's are available to you,   Are any of these jpg's very large file size?

Michael,

Thanks for taking a look.  I do not get a CER # or a form.  Generally I have to task manager/end it.  Sometimes, if I select to "x" out of the program, it will close.  But if I leave it go, it will hang indefinitely (like for hours) without applying the realistic view, or alllowing me to do ay other manipulations in the file.  I have minimized all other windows to verify there is not a hidden dialog box. All materials are availble and pathable, except one.  This model behaved just fine (realistic 3d views did what they were supposed to) in the 2021 version, not sure what got hinky in 2022.
edit:  I upgraded a different file, from a different project.  It showed 3d realistic fine.  Now I'm really confused.

Hello @aschererMVJZT ,

What is the filesize of the larger material texture jpg from my list above?  Can you reproduce the issue on any computer?  Please share a journal file after reproducing the problem.

Michael,

I went through every single material texture in the file, deleted any that were unused or seemed to be "hanging" when loading.  Purged unused, Resaved file as a a new central, verifying all worksets were editable.  Opened new central file with an audit, and attempted realistic view in the 3d view again.  It took a little time, but the view did work.  It's just boggling, as 2021 opened the bloated version of that file with no problem, but 2022 got stuck on those graphics.  I had a coworker open the old file on her 2022, and it worked on her machine.  Although her graphics card is a 1 year newer model of mine.  In any case, I would have never guessed it would be the material assets - but that appeared to be it.  Thanks!
