Revit 2019 Library location (Continued)

The posting "Revit 2019 Library location" on this forum from 3 weeks ago by ToanDN has not been solved.  (I don't see any way to "Unmark" a topic as solved.) I've written a longer post to the Installation Forum

Apparently a number of people are having this issue and it would be helpful if Autodesk would respond with at least an explanation of how to workaround the problem.

@ToanDN  @pieter.zeenaeme  @Viveka_CD   Thanks

I've drilled down and read all these threads and I am still confused about what the issue is. Could you elaborate please?

I would think that most people don't even care about the default library location because they have their own library in a location that suits their needs. If you don't like the default location, move it and move on. What's the big deal?

Thanks to @Viveka_CD @barthbradley @RobDraw for replies.

To clarify, my Revit 2019 was installed by the "Autodesk Desktop App" that sits in my Windows 10 System Tray and prompts me for updates.  The installation is to a single, stand-alone computer, that is not part of a network deployment.  I do not recall that the installation offered me any choices about where to install content, but if it did I would have accepted the defaults.

The content, including the "Family Templates", "IES", "Libraries", "Lookup Tables", and "Templates" folders were installed under the folder "C:\ProgramData\Autodesk" rather than the normal "C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RVT 2019".  (Note that the "ContentPacks", "Recent", and "UserDataCache" folders were installed in the normal location.)

In my researching this issue on the forums and speaking to colleagues I have seen that others have had the same experience.

My comments on these forums have elicited some responses that seem odd to me.  I will admit to being kind of “old school” (after 30 years of implementing Autodesk products) but I think:
1. Autodesk should care that it’s installation program is not working properly.  It is helpful if we users report our experience back to them so that they have an opportunity to correct the problem.
2. It is generally not advisable to move folders, or change paths, from an installation manually.  These things should be done by the installation program.
3. Leaving the content in a non-standard location will ultimately be problematic.  For example, the "C:\ProgramData\Autodesk” location does not properly distinguish between Revit versions.

I've already reported in a longer post to the Installation Forum about my findings with correcting the problem manually.  I've also been advised to redo the installation (or at least the content portion.)  So, for my purposes I can let this topic go, but I don't really see it as "solved".

Hi @marioguttman

Thank you for your post. I see what you are saying.

Let's wait for any other feedback on your post from the Installation team on this.

Meanwhile, can you try the below for me?

Please perform a Clean Uninstall clear your temp folder, registry files and try installing again.

Make sure you have the system requirements for the installation. See guide for more information.

Here's a video on Revit 2019 installation steps:

Also, see article and steps for How to Complete a Clean Uninstall and Reinstall of Revit products

Regards,

Trying to find the common culprit here.  What is your Windows version?

This could be something that will be changing in the future and AutoDesk meant to reset it, if it actually is a real problem.

I guess moving library content is done more often than you think. Do you think companies keep their custom content in the default directory. It's only a default. With a little knowlege, this content can be moved and implemented from any location desired.

There is no such thing as a standard location, it's a default, meaning that it can be changed. In fact, many places do not keep content on the local machines so that everyone is accessing the same content.

Time to get with the times.

Now if Revit is being pointed to a different location than the default location, that is a minor issue and easily fixed.

Time to get with the times.

Hi @marioguttman

Installing Revit through the Desktop App is fine.

Did you remember having any issues while downloading/ installing Revit 2019?

Did you install the utilities before installing Revit? See pic below for more information -

Coincidentally, I just recently downloaded a trial of 2019 on my home computer with Windows 10 Home. Did not have the desktop app installed at that time. Downloaded it from the Autodesk website. The libraries were saved to the traditional default location, C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RVT 2019\Libraries\.

HTH sort this out.

To  @Viveka_CD I didn't have any problems during the install.  I didn't install the utilities per your question.

One thing that I did notice is that there is a folder "C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Revit Content 2019."  This includes a file: "C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Revit Content 2019\Setup\Setup.ini."  (Along with the "..\Setup.exe")  Looking in the .ini file I see this line:

        SetupPath.jpg

I don't know how this got created but the folder date is the same as the other Revit 2019 installation (4/20/2018.)

That file is not present in my folder. It's obvious that the setup did not run properly during the install for you. My suspicion is it is the desktop app.

Oh, I'm sorry, I'm not @Viveka_CD. Please disregard anything pertinent that I have to offer.
