Revit 2019 Freezing

Hi All,

I'm having an issue with Revit 2019. Its currently fully patched after being re-installed. I'm currently using s Dell 5520 laptop with a company OS, and sadly McAfee encryption and AV.

The issue I face is that the program freezes, often in mid command for no reason I can see or trace, every 5 minutes or so, I've not actually timed this, maybe I should. I do have Revit 2019 on a desktop machine which does not have the same issue so I know its a problem with the laptop. I don't know where to start looking for the cause as Ctrl-alt-del worked just fine as do other applications, Revit just seems to take a quick break, no other application shows the same behavior, only Revit.

Any help or guidance will be most gratefully received.

Thanks

Roy

Are you by any chance working with a borrowed license off network?

Yes, I am, I'm situated in a remote site office off the company network, checking out a licence is done daily via VPN connection. Revit 2018 didn't have this issue.

That is the issue I am fairly sure.  This particular problem happened a few releases ago and then was tracked down and resolved. In 2019 for some reason there was a regression and the issue is occurring again. It has been logged with the licensing team, but I am not sure if there is a resolution yet.

Notes on the logged issue indicate you can manually kill the LMU.exe process via task manager in Windows and this sometimes helps the issue. (I am not sure what the LMU.exe process is exactly?) Or you can remain connected to the VPN.

ok, I'll check the process and stop it see if that helps, sadly due to poor mobile connectivity staying connected isn't always an option. As you say it's logged and being addressed, hopefully we'll see a patch soon for now I'll just get along with it.

Yeah sorry about the trouble this is causing you.

Reading through all of the notes on a linked case, where more work directly related to the problem is being done, it looks like another possibility you have to help lessen the effects of the issue is to turn off all connectivity on the computer having the issue once the license is borrowed. Do NOT connect to any wi fi or ethernet. Remain totally offline and the issue should not occur.

Is there a fix for this yet? Disconnecting network capabilities works, but is not an acceptable solution.

This shouldn't be marked as solved as this is only a work around. Has there been any further development on a fix for this yet?

The original poster marked this as a solution. If they want to remove the designation they can. As mentioned above, this has been logged with the licensing team for a fix. I do not believe a fix has been delivered yet, I am not totally sure.

Ah, ok. I'm new to the Autodesk forums. Where would be the best place to be notified when something like this has a release update or any more information comes out?

No problem.

This particular fix is a bit of a tough one to find out when it has been fixed. Typically a release for Revit has associated release notes and you have to look through the list to find the issue you are wondering about. Even that is not always straight forward because the issue you might be experiencing might not have a 1 to 1 relationship to a release note. You might see a release note like this for this kind of issue, "Improved stability of application when working with a borrowed license." Does the release note specifically say this exact problem is resolved? No, but it might be.

This actual problem has another issue in the fact the licensing team and licensing in general touches lots of products. So you will not see a Revit release note on this, you would have to really dig around (I am not even sure exactly where to look off the top of my head) to find fixes issued by them.

I can verify this issue has been logged and is being tracked because I watched one of our QA folks log the issue. When it will be fixed, I do not have a solid answer for that one. I am sorry.

I realize I am not experiencing the exact same freezing issue as Ctrl+Alt+Delete doesn't even do anything - I have to hold down the power button on my laptop to restart. I have a new, personal license and new HP Omen 156 laptop. Freezing occurs at random times and frequencies (I haven't even attempted rendering anything). Yesterday I purchased a cooling mat, thinking my laptop was getting overheated, however, in using the mat this morning for 1.5 hours only, Revit has frozen everything again. Any idea what might be causing this?

I'm having the exact same issue with Revit 2019 and a checked out license. Disconnecting from the internet or wifi is not an acceptable solution. Please find a real fix for this. I work at an offsite location for 1 week out of every month and disconnecting from the internet means missing work emails for that whole week.

I am experiencing a similar behavior as described by the OP. Only difference is, I am working off of a direct connection  to the internet in our office. There are no noticeable disruptions in the connection.

I can be using Revit for 20-30 mins and then anytime I open a drop down menu, the program locks up for a minute or two, sometimes longer. I am unable to reproduce the issue on command, as it happens randomly. It is very disruptive and the only solution I've found is to close and restart the program.

Any update on the status of this?

I am facing the exact same issue since the last 2 months.

I have also updated Revit to the latest version (2019.2) , but the problem still persists.

Every time Revit freezes randomly in some command, I have to turn my desktop off by long pressing the power button.

Autodesk please fix this issue. It is mindnumbingly painful to work like this, I have a checked out license for Revit 2019.2 and it does just like everyone says, randomly every 5 to 10 mins. I need my internet for email. Please fix ASAP, please make sure 2020 has it solved or I will look for a different program.

I'm having the same issue. Works fine when I disconnect wifi. When wifi is connected it freezes every 3-5 minutes.

Any fixes yet?

Not that I'm aware of yet. We ended up not having to use 2019 for very long. So I have not be up to date on this issue.

I look pretty much every week for a fix to this awful problem.  Looks like Autodesk is just going to wait to 2020 version.
