Revit 2019 Crash Issues when Saving File

Dear all,

I am continuously unable to save a model I have been working for long in 2019 environment. This has only been an issue in the 2019 environment. It starts load families normally but crashes upon on two attempts of saving model.

I find this a bit strange at this stage of revit development.  First attempt give failed command and second attempts takes you to save a recovery mode which then crashes later on.

What can I do.

Patrick

Hi @patkson

Did the crash generate a CER?

Did you try an audit?

You can send across a journal file to test further.

I can send you a private uplaod folder.

Let me know.

Hello,

Many thanks for responding, but its really getting frustrating for me on this, I have tried everything I know,  model audit, deleted temporal folder files. reinstalled revit and all add-ins. It still hasn't resolve the issue permanently, It gets resolved temporarily and allows saving for once or twice and crash. And no, it doesn't generate any cer, I only get first command fail at first, and then on second attempt I asked to save a recovery file which doesn't which fails also.

Please help.

Many thanks

Patrick

Hi @patkson

Sorry that this did not solve the issue. I understand your frustration. I'd like to help you with this.

I'll need your file and journal along with the diagnostic data to troubleshoot further.

Please see article:  Revit - Collecting and sending diagnostic data to Autodesk Technical Support

Let me know and I can share a private upload folder if you'd prefer.

Hi @patkson

I've haven't heard back from you in a while. Were you able to upload the diagnostic data to the shared link provided?

Let me know if you've had trouble accessing the folder?

Thanks,

Hi Viveka,

Sorry for late response went offline for a moment, Yes I have resolved the issue by removing all auto-desk products plus addins, and  flashing of all records off the system registry. All alternatively reinstalling windows. Seem like a tedious process especially having to reinstall all programs back, but it got the job done.  Meanwhile I have sent diagnostic data to Autodesk.

Thank you.

Regards,

Patrick

@patkson this may indicate the presence of a corrupt family or families within the model. Please try the following steps to search for, and correct, any corrupt families within your project model.

  1. Open a COPY of the original model
  2. Save out the families. When Revit finds one that's corrupt, it will crash.
    https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2016/EN...
  3. Make note of the family that crashed Revit (the last family will be visible on the status bar in the lower-left corner)
  4. Close Revit
  5. Reopen Revit
  6. Open the central model from step 1.
  7. Delete the corrupt family from step 3.
  8. Save the model
  9. Repeat steps 2-8
  10. Repeat until Revit doesn't crash while saving the families.
  11. Get clean copies of the original families and reload them into the ORIGINAL model and overwrite the existing families.

It's essentially the same process as outlined in the Solution section of this AKN article.

Hi @patkson

Thanks for getting back to us. Glad to hear that removing the add-ins helped resolve your issue:

I will take a look at your diagnostic data and share updates.
