Revit 2019 : Can not open the material tab

Hello everyone,

Recently I have installed Revit 2019 and I have encountered the problem related to the materials tab; I wouldn't open from the element editing neither from the manage tab. I have reinstalled Revit and the material library as well but still it didn't work.

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad w520 with nvidia quadro 2000m and as well there is intel HD graphics 3000. After browsing different forums I have fixed the problem somehow, only by deactivating nvidia quadro and working in Revit with the intel graphics. The question is: Do you guys know how can I use revit with nvidia quadro and still be able to open the material tab?

Look for an nVidia software driver late 2015.  The only one works for some older nVidia geForce M cards is 356.62 but your is a Quadro M so you need a different one.

I have downgraded the drivers to 2015 version, and now revit uses the integrated intel graphics and does detect the discrete card

Post a screenshot of what your Program Settings are for Revit in the Nvidia Control Panel under Manage 3D settings.

Thanks

(Use Snipping tool for the screenshot so you can select just the Control Panel screen.)

Ha ha....me and my big ideas....  I got Revit and Nvidia...lol.

Go to the Configure Surround/PhysX and make sure only the GTX card is showing in the settings.

Surround and PhysicX have nothing to do with Revit.  One is for sound and another is for gaming.

Go through the tutorial below and set Revit to use nVidia card from the driver settings.  It does not guarantee that it will work, though (due to incompatible driver version, see my 1st reply above)

I wanted to see what the monitor was plugged into...and it is what I thought.

Really the Nvidia should be set to control everything in the Global Parameters...else if you switch out of Revit to something else, Revit will crash.

Here is my laptop setup:

- nVidia GeForce M + Intel build-in card, both are enabled in BIOS

- External monitor plugged in HDMI

- Revit runs on main laptop monitor

By default Revit will use nVidia without any mocking with the driver settings (nVidia software is pretty good at detecting graphic intensive programs).   I purposely edit the driver and force some trivial applications such as Chrome and the like to NOT use nVidia card to reserve the power for Revit.  I can move it or any palettes from the laptop monitor to the external monitor and back on the fly without any problem.   I can Alt-tabbing from one app to another, whether they are on the same monitor or on different monitors without any problems.

Yes I had had the same issue of Revit 2018/2018 material window did not open and the only way to fix it is using a specific nVidia driver circa 2015.

Does somebody know how to fix the problem with the material tab, cause I still haven't figure out anything. The solution with downgrading the drivers of quadro video doesn't work (Revit is starting to use the integrated video card). I will be very thankful for your help. Have a good day!!!!

Hi @Anonymous

Please see a similar thread for a recommendation.

Also, try to repair Revit and try an uninstall reinstall of the material library

Looking forward to hearing from you!
