with an existing subscription the latest four versions of the software are available. contact your manager to renew your licence, this may help.

Hi, we are using a 3rd party to do our work. Their query is as follows 'm not able to open the model as I cannot install revit 2018. Autodesk have discontinued the software. Upgrading the model and reloading all the architectural and structural models will take a considerable amount of time.

Is this a valid excuse for not carrying out any work?

Regards

The contract for the work should stipulate such conditions. there have been times when the revit version used was upgraded by agreement of the parties involved.

Subscription customers only have access to the latest release and up to five (5) versions back.

I have also heard of five versions, but only the last four are available in my personal account.

2020 is the last downloadable version and it will end as soon as 2024 is coming out in a few weeks.

So you are not willing to upgrade and your 3rd party is not willing to downgrade? Is that it?

Subscription based software has become a scam utilized by basically all software companies at this point. Its horrible, but one of the few advantages is that there is no excuse not to keep your software updated. I understand not jumping into a new version as soon as it comes out, but still working in 2018 is pretty inexcusable to me.

Everyone involved needs to be using same versions of Revit. If you have a consultant that is unable to meet this very basic criteria, then logic dictates that they cannot participate.   The solution is not to bend over backwards to meet their requirements, but to find someone who can meet yours.

I'd be concerned if I hired someone who uses old software..... if you are subscribed you may have access to older versions, but only if you were subscribed during those former years. Like, if you subscribe today the first time, you likely only have access to 2023. If you started your subscription last year, you would have access to 2022 and 2023 and so on. Contact your Autodesk seller for specifics. I suspect it will depend on the region and your specific subscription history. Larger companies may get special deals.

Upgrading a model (and all linked models) takes time. But the computer does all the work! Don't feel sorry for the PC, it is built to do that mundane work! The user can use the PC for other tasks while Revit upgrades.  You just can't use Revit during that time.

I actually welcome the subscription model since it forces employers to keep up to date. Out of all the software we use in a company, the ones that are old are the ones causing problems with newer OS and other integrations. We here have a 2010 SharePoint version and it ruins our modern Bluebeam experience when opening PDF. i hope the new subscription World will avoid such silliness. Plus the security issues and new features you miss out on. Like 4K for Revit, better multi-core use and 1000 other new features since 2018.

Revit Version: R2026.2
Hardware: i9 14900K, 64GB, Nvidia RTX 2000 Ada 16GB
Add-ins: ElumTools; Ripple-HVAC; ElectroBIM; Qbitec

Unless all other parties are willing to upgrade, it is valid. We stopped using 2019 for new projects as soon as it was unavailable for download. We still have it on some machines for older projects that are still active but won't use it for new ones.

I had the same problem when I tried to reinstall an older version and I was able to do it by using AVA.

Login into  your Autodesk Account >All Product and Services> Revit > License Details>Serial Numbers > Get Help - so you'll use Autodesk (Virtual) Assistant (AVA)  and as being an old client you'll get help in your problem...
