Revit 2018--Switch Window to minimized view?

Hey all, I don't post very often but this is driving me crazy. We just upgraded to Revit 2018 from 2015 and I have applied the .2 patch. It used to be that if I minimized a view, and then later used Switch Windows to go back to that view, it would open in the same size and location on the screen as before. But now, selecting the view just highlights the tiny header bar in the bottom left corner. If I then expand it, it goes fullscreen, so I have to restore it back down. This means three clicks separated by a lot of screen real estate instead of a single click. Are other users seeing this behavior as well? Thanks in advance for all replies.

After investigating this further, it appears that one symptom of the issue is that my "minimized" view is malformed, see attachment.  My coworker has a bar with three options: close, maximize and restore up.  Mine only has close and maximize.

Hi @PDSF

I saw your issue on the escalations list.

Please copy your co-worker's file from the following location and paste it into your machine

UIState.dat is located in the following folder:

%APPDATA%\Autodesk\Revit\<product name and release>

Note: Create a backup of your UIState.dat before you do the above.

Please select the Accept as Solution button if my post solves your issue or answers your question. Kudos welcome!

Thanks,

Hello Viveka

The situation has now changed because I got a new computer and installed Revit 2018 on it.  But I am still having a related problem.  The bar at a minimized view now shows correctly with all 3 buttons, but selecting a minimized view using the pulldown just brings focus to (highlights) the bar rather than opening the view (see attachment).  This is slightly less annoying but still not normal behavior.  As I say, this is a brand new, high powered computer with a brand new Revit installation.  The graphics card is an Nvidia Quadro P4000 with the latest driver.  I have disabled hardware acceleration, no effect.  Please don't ask me to roll back to a different driver as Revit reports that it has not been tested with this card (although it is recommended on the Autodesk site for many other applications).  Please help.  Thanks.

Hi @PDSF,

you wrote:

"The bar at a minimized view now shows correctly with all 3 buttons, but selecting a minimized view using the pulldown just brings focus to (highlights) the bar rather than opening the view "

I was able to reproduce the issue on my computer as well with Revit 2018.2 but not with Revit 2017.2.

I started an investigation with the product development team and documented the current findings on Autodesk Knowledge Network here.

As this article is new, it may take a few hours for the above link to be active and working.

We will keep this article updated with news as soon as these are available.

I appologize for the inconvenience this has caused you when using our product.

As a workaround: you may want to reopen the view in it´s original position by right-clicking on it on the Properties Panel and selecting "Open" or by clicking on the minimized view directly and chosing "Restore" - just as recorded in this video.

I hope you find this information helpful. In order to point other users to this reported issue and the ongoing investigation, I will go ahead and mark this post as a solution now.

Please, don´t hesitate to get back to me in case of further questions or concerns - I´d be happy to help.

Best regards,

Thanks for investigating this.  Of course I have been using your workaround, but it isn't worth much when you have six or so minimized views as I typically do.
