Good afternoon all,
We have just started switching to 2018 for all new work for the year. There are three of us using R2018 in our group at the moment, and all of us experience the same issue. The entire ribbon will freeze and not allow any click to change it. However, Revit itself is not frozen. The ribbon has frozen during several different operations; I can't find that it's caused by the same action. Sometimes after a few minutes of random clicking it will unfreeze itself but most of the time it will require a full close/restart. Since it seems to be happen at least once or twice a day with us, I'm curious if anyone else is having the same issue, and if so, has found a fix.
Thanks!
Yes, we're running 2018.2, but I'm on Windows 10 1607. Is there a compatibility issue with old versions of Windows and 2018.2?
No. There are performance issues related to the Fall creation update (1709) but looks like this is not the case.
So should we just assume that we have a corrupt install across all platforms? It happens quite frequently so we'd like to get a solution for this as quickly as possible.
I see that you are visiting as a new member.Welcome to the Autodesk Community!
A few recommendations:
If all the above fails to resolve your issue, it could be a corrupt installation of Revit. Reinstall recommended
Please select the Accept as Solution button if my post solves your issue or answers your question. Kudos welcome!

Viveka,
This is NOT the solution to our problem. We are going through the states of testing all of these ideas on our machines and none of them have been conclusive yet. As you were the one who decided to mark your own response as a solution, please unmark your response as a solution as it is not.
No worries, it will be unmarked.
Usually a solution is marked if this works during testing and to help other find solutions quickly.
Since you are in the process of trying the suggestions, we will wait to hear back from you on which of the recommendations helped, then we can mark that answer as solution.
Thanks!

Hi. I'm facing the same issue. My system configuration meets all the requirements.
We've found that it's an error within Revit 2018 that occurs after loading a family into a project. It doesn't matter what type of family, just as long as you click on "Load Family." The 'fix' for it that we've found is to restore down and then maximize the window (the box next to the 'X' at top right of Revit window) (double clicking on the top of the Revit window twice also works). This resets the ribbon so that it's usable again.
Hi @Anonymous
Please try the below steps and let me know if this helps!

Hey Viveka,
I've forwarded this on to our IT guys to see if we can use this as a solution. I'll be sure to come back and mark it as a solution if it ends up working. Thanks!
Please make sure you have Microsoft .Net Framework 4.6 installed. If its a different version whether older of newer then uninstall and install 4.6 and see how you get on.

@Viveka_CD We're still working on it. We've just tried it on two machines yesterday and haven't heard back. We're a big company - things move slowly.
@Viveka_CD This doesn't turn out to be a solution. I just tested it several times and get the same results. Load Family > *Pick a family to Load* > Revit ribbon freezes. Restoring Down and Maximizing the Revit window fixes the freeze.
Are you having multiple monitors, there could be something else going on.
Please contact support and log a case, its best that we remote into your machine to investigate further.
