Revit 2018 - Remove Parent relationship from Child View

Hi All,

In earlier versions of Revit it was possible to change the parent view of a called out view to "none" in the properties panel. In Revit 2018 this option is not there. Please could anyone advise on how to make a child view separate from its parent view?

Many thanks

Jack

You can make the Callout Reference another view, but you could never make it reference no view ("None").  That would be like converting the Callout to a "dumb" symbol.

...wait a minute, are you talking about Convert to Independent View? In other words, changing a Dependent View to an Independent View. Right-click on the View and select Convert to Independent View in the drop-down box.

Hi barthbradley,

I think that I am talking about parent relationship of a view made by callout. with sectional views there is an option for view range in terns of parent vs independent which is confusing. I know that in revit 2016 it used to be possible to separate a view from its parent in the properties bar. This functionality appears to have disappeared.

It is still there.  You can change it for Detail call-out views, not Plan/Elevation/Section call-out views.

Hi Toan,

Thanks for the reply!!

Ahh i see, You seem to be able to do if for section views but not plans, RCP, elevations.

Is there any way to break the parent child relationship for plans, RCP, elevations?

We are looking to clear out lots of old views that are redundant other than the fact that they are parents to other views that are in use on sheets?

Many thanks

Jack

I don't think it is possible without re-creating the called-out views but it is not realistic at all.  maybe you should give the unwanted views a label and organize the view browser so that they stay in one folder at the bottom of the view tree or even hidden completely with a filter.

How about just clipboard copy and paste to a different view, then delete the original?

Ok great thanks Toan,

I think i am going to stop using the callout function all together from now on. Rather just duplicate the view and then place a callout tag referencing other view.
