Well, I'm sure glad I decided to try installing a single Revit 2018 before we roll out to the rest of the department!! Same problems, tried all the fixes, no luck. This is exactly why we typically stay two versions behind the current. I won't cut Revit 2018 loose on our people until this is fixed.
Hi @slacy
Sorry to hear that the fixes, updates did not help. Did you go through all the recommendations?
Most of these errors have been linked to the installation process and incomplete download.
It could also be due to the fact that certain Third-party applications, Windows services and processes,
antivirus, firewall, and network settings may be causing Autodesk applications to interact with the OS in
an unexpected manner.
Can you try installing the material libraries again and reinstall Revit through the Autodesk Virtual Agent
Please see this post on Revit 2018 due to errors in installing material library.
See HERE to reinstall material libraries.
Can you send a screenshot of your error message and a journal file to troubleshoot?
Does the error occur during the material editing process? Have you loaded new textures files recently?
Did this error occur before in other versions?
How was Revit 2018 functioning otherwise?
Let us know and we are glad to help!
Please post to the Installation and Licensing forum if you have specific questions regarding installation.

You've got to be kidding me right???? So far you have indicated that just about anything on our workstations can make your products and installations fail. Revit 2016 works just fine, Revit 2018 does not - THE PROBLEM IS AT YOUR END. AutoDesk has a habit of blaming everything under the sun for their product failures. You might also try to stop rushing products out the door before they are fully tested. Okay Steve deep breath!!! Can you tell that you really lit my fuse today?
I'm going to copy Mike Murphy (our area sales manager) on this forum discussion and see if he can get some action on this item.
Hi Slacy,
I understand your frustration. Trust me I have been there, installing and reinstalling software and the application still crashes - burnt the midnight oil!
Going through all the recommendations is worth every bit and it not only helps to load you application, but also solves other issues in the long run especially with complex models.
Thanks for letting us know that Revit 2016 works just fine and you are having issues with Revit 2018.
Can you please provide us with a screenshot of your specific errors and a copy of a journal file to troubleshoot and filter for errors? If you have questions in locating your journal file please let us know.
As a follow-up from the previous response, we are committed to resolving your issues, providing recommendations and filter out any discrepancies, not suggesting that workstations have issues. While at it, we have multiple cases of crashes being resolved as well as successful performance of the latest software from the above recommendations in the previous posts.
The team at Autodesk is committed to working towards making improvements, resolving issues/bugs that may arise with every new version. You are welcome to post ideas and feedback for future releases.

Greetings again, more calm now, but still frustrated with AutoDesk.
To clarify, when we encounter these types of events we explore the problem completely "non live" (meaning we experiment with non live projects).
I start a new clean project with a 2018 template (typ. - architectural) and add a single generic (out of the box) wall. In this case my next step is to go to OUR custom material library and try to add a new material category. BAM - crash. There is virtually no graphic or file size overhead. What I haven't tried yet (and will upon completing this message) is to try to modify the standard (out of the box) AutoDesk library. I will report back.
Hi @slacy
Great to hear back and thanks for clarifying!
Sorry to hear about the issues you are facing with the application.
I will wait for your report. Meanwhile a journal file will help so I can keep troubleshooting for errors.

Hi ennujozlagam,
I have a small SSD m.2 card so i installed on my secondary SATA HD. I am not working off a server.
The version is the same as yours.
Kind Regards,

Couple of items....
Is your material libraries mapped to another drive? That has causes issues with Revit in the past.
Another item, what does Revit see as your default video card? Since a lot of laptops and some computers have dual video cards, Revit has an issue when dealing with two instead of one. Making your GTX card default in the Mange 3D settings in the Control Panel may help quite a bit if an Intel card is running secondary.
Hi mpwuzhere,
Thank you for the advice.
The NVIDIA graphics card is set as the default (see below).
While my laptop has the materials library mapped to D:\ all of the other computers have it installed on C: (they also crash).
Kind Regards,
Paul Storm
Just checking if you can send us a model to troubleshoot. The one attached with your post is the default sample file.
Were you looking to open this file or do you have another file which crashes? Please let us know.
Looking forward to your reply update.

Hi Viveka_CD
I have just installed the latest Revit update and checked for the latest NVIDIA driver for my graphics card.
The crashes are not file specific. All files crash when I try to edit materials.
Kind Regards,
Paul Storm
Hi Paul,
Thanks for letting us know that this is not a file specific issue.
An as update, this issue is being investigated for a resolution and we are trying to reproduce the error.
Does the crash occur when you edit a specific material? Are you using materials from outside the Revit material library? Please clarify.
Regards,
Viveka CD
