Another bug in Revit 2018.2 that defies imagination...
We have a social housing project where steel containers are being used for living units and they're being stacked three units high, with about 5 or 6 linked files being copied around to create the overall project.
When all the linked files are put into place, the Steering Wheel tools no longer work in a camera view. The Look, Walk and Orbit tools do nothing.
Unbelievable. I'm glad we didn't roll out 2018 at our university.
are the navigation issues you are facing file specific, workstation specific, graphics card driver specific?

It's a Windows 7 problem with Revit 2018.2
If I have a large number of linked files, I can't walk or look with the Steering Wheel. If I take this to Windows 10 with the same hardware, it's fine. So it's the combination of Win7 and Revit 2018 that's the problem. We have a ton of stations here at the uni with this combination so it's pretty annoying for us.
perhaps not...
I have a windows 7 64bit running 2018.2. I created a revit file with over 20 revit links....my navigation works fine.
my station has an nvidia quadro m5100k card
perhaps a graphics card driver related issue on that workstation?

Hey Dzan - thanks for confirming that you can get 3D navigation to work on a Windows 7 box. I might be able to get IT to swap a video card out since driver versions don't matter.
Hi @Anonymous
Yes, it works on windows 7 for Revit 2018.2
I'm waiting for feedback from the team if they have encountered a similar behavior.
Meanwhile, Check recommended hardware for Revit 2018 and Windows 7
Is your viewcube on for all 3d views or set to active view only?
Thanks,

Thanks for looking into this - I'll check the recommended hardware list.
TBH we've never had any problems before with any video card used with Revit provided we use the latest drivers. Often the recommended drivers in the list don't work as well as later versions, and this is the first time I've seen a problem of this kind with Revit, which is usually pretty easygoing WRT to video cards, especially since Revit started working with DirectX.
Hi @Anonymous
Can you please confirm if this happens only in this particular project with linked files or any Revit file?
If you continue to face issues, please send us your journal and NFO to diagnose further.
I can share a private folder with you.
Looking forward to your reply update.

Hi @Anonymous
Since this seems to be a case with the OS Windows 7 (check for updates) and Windows 10, below is a note on optimizing OS for performance issues:
Verify that the paging file size is optimized for your system. The paging file should be at least the size that is recommended for Windows and at most twice the size of installed RAM. Larger page files may provide more memory for the Revit platform, but system performance could degrade noticeably with expanded page files. If a second physical drive is available, slight improvements to page file performance can be realized by placing the page file on a drive that doesn’t host the OS. For OS debugging purposes, an 800 MB minimum page file on the boot drive is recommended.
To adjust paging file size, follow these steps:
1. On the Windows Start menu, click Settings > Control Panel.
2. In Control Panel, click System and Security.
3. Click System.
4. Click Advanced System Settings.
5. In the System Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
6. Under Performance, click Settings.
7. In the Performance Options dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
8. On the Advanced tab, under Virtual Memory, click Change.
9. In the Virtual Memory dialog box, change the Initial and Max values to 8184 (2 * 4GB) for a 4GB machine.
10. Click Set.
11. Click OK to close the Virtual Memory dialog.
12. Click Apply.
13. Click the Visual Effects Tab.
14. Select Custom.
15. Clear/uncheck the following options: Face or slide menus into view * Show window contents while dragging * Slide open combo boxes
16.Click Apply.
17. Click OK to close each dialog.
Let me know if the above helps resolve the issue.
